Re: iRacing after 2+ years
That's exactly what I needed! I'll increase that a bit because I caused an accident at Michigan because of that and then this morning I had room for a second and that's just not enough sometimes.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I spent a lot of time today practicing in the new F1 car at Road America. I'm going to be running S1 on that car. It is so much fun.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I need a team mate for the upcoming season. Any os racers want to join us? I'm currently running a number 83 krispy kreme doughnuts car but if I can get a few os guys to join maybe we can collaborate and design some operation sports paint schemes. Season starts in February

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Classes are over finally so now it looks like I can get back into some racing. I haven't raced in so long I don't even know where to jump in. Glad to see Nordschleife in. Love love love the track.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Might give the Skippy a shot in a few races. Tried it tonight in practice and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Seems like the new build caused the car to lose some of it's oversteer tendencies which I never seem to like in a car.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Merry Christmas guys! Haven't gotten to play much this week being out of town, but got to test my friends G27 and won a pickup cup race at Daytona. Definitely would have to get used to the brakes on those pedals if I upgraded some day.
Disappointed that with all the issues they've had recently they haven't put up the holiday credit sale. I've seen multiple posts on reddit and someone commented on their twitter about when it would happen. I was going to try to run Indycar this winter with the sale, but without it, I'll probably just keep it to the minimum tracks I need to get me into spring in the NASCAR season. Still haven't gotten anywhere on my issue when sleeping my PC, my skew suddenly goes terrible. Not the end of the world restarting every time, but annoying.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
What series do you all run? I just started right before Christmas and am in Class D on both oval and road and ready for promotion. My SR on Oval is 3.66 and my SR on Road is 3.80 so I'm hoping to go C in the next few days. For paid stuff, I have the Skippy, Kia Cup, National Car, and BMW along with a few tracks. Does anyone ever run a hosted session?Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I'm loving iRacing again now that I build a PC for it, bought triple monitors, bought a new router and set my wheel and pedals back up.... Sure as hell isn't a cheap game/hobby to get into if you want to do it right. And my setup is still pretty half assed. lolPSN: LobsterKillahComment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I need to figure something out for a seat. I currently have my shifter and wheel clamped to my desk and sit on an old kitchen chair that I had stored away. It definitely gets uncomfortable after about 20 minutes. I have seen people make a setup out of that T slotted extruded aluminum. I want to give it a try but can't find the stuff locally.
How does your guys setup work for you?Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I haven't gotten much time to practice lately, but I am starting to look into doing a full upgrade and switch to an Intel machine.
Trying to decide between a 4790K, 6600K or 6700K (obviously cost is why I have the other two here, else the decision is done; the 6600K and 4790K builds are comparable cost-wise), but I'm not sure what video card I actually need to run a 3-monitor setup with iRacing. I don't really do any other gaming, but I might get some other racing games at some point. The 980 is out as I cannot justify paying that much for a video card. The 970 at $350 or so seems like the best pick so far, but what I really want to know is: what video card do I actually need to run a 3-monitor 1080p setup for iRacing? Most comments I've seen say the 960 is too weak for 3-monitor gaming. I've never owned an nvidia card and have only used ATI/AMD video cards with AMD processors so far on my desktop builds.
My budget isn't set, but I'm already looking at around $1100-$1200 for the 4790(K) or 6600(K) builds and that includes getting a 3rd 21.5" monitor. The 6700(K) build is more on the order of $1325-$1375, so we're talking a $200 difference. I probably don't really need the K versions of the 6000 series as they are plenty powerful. This build would allow me to sell my FX-8350 Black, motherboard, Hyper 212 EVO cooler and the 16 GB of DDR3 memory I have and maybe get back $325 if I can actually sell it. The i5 looks like a downgrade when initially compared to the FX-8350, but I'm pretty sure the Intel would kick its ***.
I may also be searching for a needle in a haystack, but I'm hoping a brand new build might also resolve my current problems with sleep mode screwing up skew, requiring me to restart to effectively race. I'd be getting a new PSU and SSD along in this build. If anyone has any recommendations to get cost down, I'm all for hearing it. I wasn't planning on doing anything this year, and my bonus will affect whether or not I do this, but if I can capitalize on the equipment I have, might as well go for it.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Welp, I had a longish post written up and the OS monster decided to log me out when I went to post and it went off to the internet graveyard.
Long story short:
I know nothing about AMD chips, so I can't give you a comparison on that end.
Keep the cooler if you can. It will work with all three CPUs you're looking at.
I think you should be able to reuse that ram if you go with the 4790K (as it uses DDR3), although I'd check and make sure there are no compatibly issues.
6700K is the best choice, but I can understand not wanting to spend the money on it.
The 6600K is going to be the best value, but might preform a little worse in iRacing as the 4790K and 6700K have the higher stock clock speed.
If you're willing to overclock (It's real easy these days), make sure you get a K chip.
I don't know triple screen performance in iRacing, but go with the best GPU you can afford. iRacing will be switching to DX11 shortly (Soon™) and that should allow the video card to matter more.
I think that's the main points of what I originally wrote. Hope it helps.Comment
