    Re: iRacing after 2+ years

Oh man was that a terrible idea. That car was so loose in practice but riding around the outside I thought I could make it work. And it did for about half the race, but the last half just killed me. The 4x of someone slamming on the brakes at pit road entrance didn't help me, but I know why he did it; he was trying to let me pass to not get penalized. Just really terrible time to do that. And then someone else wrecked under caution and spun out right in front of me. Wound up losing 0.8 SR and dropped down to 2.5.

I'll be sticking to time trials and pacing myself for awhile. I need to get back above 3 before I try to do any races again. I just got up to B so I don't want to risk getting demoted. And maybe the right setup in the open series, I would have survived. That track was just terrible during the day!

Actually had some time to practice Kansas tonight, but between having to run next to the wall and the hideous track textures that look they were drawn by a 3-year-old, I lost interest in that pretty quickly.

Might end up going two weeks without racing because Dega is next week and it's a full length race. I don't like plate racing even in practice, much less a 3 hour race. At least there's some tracks I should enjoy coming up after that.

I'm not sure I'm going to get in a NiS race at Kansas this week. Work has been kicking my butt and I haven't had any time to practice. Might get in a Class A race for participation credits, but we'll see.
I was afraid I was going to, as well! Of course, I guess my nervousness did translate into the decision to pit instead of staying out on the final caution. I probably would've blown it and spun my tires on old tires on the ensuing restart or something...

I did race and win a couple A Fixed races over the last two days, so at least I won something.

Anyways, here is the recording of the NiS race on Thursday evening:

I think you were screwed no matter what there. Had stayed out, everyone else probably pits and then you probably end up stuck on the inside with cars blowing by you on the outside. Still a heck of a drive at the end there. Those final green flag laps got my heart rate up even though I knew what was going to happen.

Well, I'm going for it tonight. My friend and I have similar iRatings so we are going to hope we wind up in the same split and try to survive 500 miles. Watching a race last night, it seems way too easy to just Bobby Hamilton the thing and stay away from the pack if you have a drafting partner and let some of the field wreck themselves. By the halfway point, only 8 cars were on the lead lap and only 15 of 26 were actually still running. Let the wrecks happen in front of you and at least put yourself in position to go for the win. Thing I found in practice is that 2 cars do not run anywhere near as well as 3+ so that is one disadvantage unless you get another car or two you can trust to hang back with you.

Yeah, I know. It kind of sucked. If that stayed green, I probably finish top 3 and maybe had a shot at the win if I could have held off the 2nd place car (unlikely), but oh well.

I ran again on Sunday night, but it was a frustrating experience. After starting 2nd, I got shuffled back during pit stops as my strategy to pit later didn't work so well when we got a yellow early in the next pit stop sequence. So I restarted mid-pack and was never really able to make any headway back up towards the front since you can't pass at Kansas. Annoying experience. I ended up 14th.

I don't think I am going to race this week. I don't particularly like restrictor plate racing and a full-length 500 miles of it is not my cup of tea.

                Re: iRacing after 2+ years

That actually went pretty well and about as much as I expected. My friend did something to his iRating yesterday so we were in different splits but I found someone right off that had the same idea as me so we hung out back and stayed out of the way. People just fall off so quick there, though that by lap 50, we were top 10. So we go green and I stay on the bottom line, but they are just so aggressive on the apron I think they're going to wreck. So I move up and start running the mid-high line and within a couple of laps, they wreck right in front of me and I just don't have time to move. So, my fault for 1) not sticking to my plan as the guy I was working with had dropped back, and 2) just sticking to the low line as I would have cleared it.

Went about 35-40 laps down waiting for repairs but I was able to leave the pits right when the guy I was working with at the beginning and a couple of other leaders were leaving. My car drafted at their speed and I was fine the rest of the way. Only 3 cars were on the lead lap at the end and if I had avoided that accident, there is no reason why I wouldn't have been involved in the win. A guy I drafted behind for about 50 of the last 80 laps wound up winning.

I doubt I run Sunday night and think I could improve by staying out of the way for longer as we had about a 100 lap green flag run after I got taken out, but I finally felt like I had a good Cup race. Pocono was difficult and I blew it while running top 10 with just 9 laps to go. Michigan started off great and then the tires fell off and I just couldn't focus. Minus one potentially avoidable accident, I ran great last night, I could stay with the leaders, only had a 4x and got about 0.3 SR out of it. Got a 12th place finish out of 30 drivers. Overall, pretty good night considering it took 3 hours to run.

Career win #2. After having a good truck day at Talladega on Sunday (3rd and 2nd) I finally got to a setup for Phoenix I liked in the SK Modified and I ran away with it. It feels a bit better than the first win in week 13 against some rookies, but when your setup dominates everyone else, it takes away from it a bit. But a win is a win!

Ran a few laps at Texas tonight in the Gen6. The exit of Turn 2 is the devil. Now that baseball is over I should have more time to practice and in turn race. Hopefully I'll be able to run a race or two this weekend.

I've only had a chance to do a couple races over the last few weeks. I might race tomorrow, but I'm not feeling very well, so we'll see.

I have been so busy at work. I've tried to get some practice in this week but I don't feel confident enough to run any races.

My one month lapsed (waiting until after NASCAR season is over/Black Friday), but I have been starting my desktop over from scratch. I keep having skew problems when ever my computer wakes up from sleep so I figured a clean install of Windows was a good start. Been taking time with that.

There aren't enough hours in the day for me lately. Unfortunately iRacing doesn't make the cut.

I can't figure out if I want to endure the pain/accomplishment of a full-length NiS race tonight.
