    Re: Shift 2 Unleashed Impressions

Been having quite a bit fun on this and thank you all that mentioned the Steering Assist ON.

    Boy what a difference!

But I am having problems racing online. Everyone is crashing into me and I always end up finishing last. Its like whenever I get a lead, someone knocks into me and I spin out of control to last place.

Anyone experiencing this online? Any tips? (I am completely new to the online racing scene)

Any of you guys tried tuning any cars? I'm looking for some to try out

Haven't found an online console racer where this isn't an issue.

Shift 2 physics aren't gaining any sim fans. Sim racers generally runs a more realistic, clean style. Shift is more attractive to players who come from a NFS or Burnout background where the mentality is win at the expense of everyone. Shift 2 physics also don't help make it easy for players who do want to run clean. Cars are far too unstable and unpredictable.

The best thing you can do to stay out of trouble is
        1) if you cannot be a half dozen car links ahead by the first corner just stay back and drive around the pile up
        2) learn to take unusual lines that keep you out of harms way if you are being trailed
        3) give up position, even when you are in the right, if it saves you from a 'takedown'. Odds are the guy who took the position from you will mess himself up down the road anyway.
        4) be vocal and call out your passes - "driver2, on your left". you might find a lot of guys actually do play fair but either don't realize someone is there or are playing beyond their ability (which is easy to do with the wonky physics in this game).
        5) find longer races to enter where short attention span racers tend not to troll
        6) select heavier cars that are more stable even when taking a few bumps and grinds

So is it just me or is it VERY difficult to do the drifting in this game? I'm using the MS wheel and it took me about 30 Minutes just to do the first tutorial. Very aggravating, I kept spinning out no matter how light and controlled I was on the gas.

lol odogg, I was about to post the same thing. GT driving force on my ps3, and I can't drift for nothing. It's ridiculously hard, and you can't sustain it. I heard its easier with controller, but I am not using a controller.

Yeah I've had no problems drifting with a controller. I only tried it a few times. I'm more interested in the racing aspect right now. I'll mess around with drifting later down the road after I complete more of the racing campaigns...but I have had little issues drifting with the controller...

Ok, nice to know it's not just me then. A quick glance around the net made it appear as if others were also having some issue but I wanted to see what my fellow OS'ers said.

I guess I'll just wait and see if maybe a patch fixes it or something. I did read btw that there are assists present in drifting while using the controller that are not present when using the wheel. I guess that would explain it.

man this game was just not worth the effort for me. i felt like i was fighting the handling physics to make it worth the money. I spent way too much time tuning, modding, adjusting sensitivities to make the cars drivable. good luck waiting on a patch. i took the $35 amazon trade-in gift card and ran with it. i'm Really hoping dirt 3 can produce. no more ea racing games for me.

I've heard others say that but honestly I have very little issue with the racing aspect of it having good control (using my Microsoft Wheel) physics wise. I have however had a bear of a time with the drift stuff though.

I have a Logitech G25 wheel. I tried the drifting for about 20 minutes in the tutorial and I couldn't even get close to doing it correctly. It's just not worth the frustration to me. Seeing how I couldn't do it in the tutorial, I can't imagine having to try to drift around corners in an actual race...what a train wreck that would be.

I just simply decided that I am not doing anything directly related to drifting and I moved on. Odd...because normally I'll give everything a solid try, but I knew from the first couple minutes in the tutorial that this wasn't happening because of the controls. Maybe with a game pad its possible, but a playing a racing game with a game pad is not for me.

Yeah I agree, I had a few beers the night I tackled the drift tutorial so I figured it was the beer. But then the next day I tried it and wow...same stuff..it wasn't the beer. It was like I'd go around the circle and nothing would happen so I'd give it JUST A TINY bit more gas and SPIN OUT!! I must have worked on it 30 or 40 minutes to get to 200 points and only one time did I get it to actually feel like I was drifting. It sucks because the mode looks like it'd be a ton of fun if it worked right.

I hear it is pretty easy with a gamepad and maybe I'll try that but as you said man, I don't like playing racing games with a gamepad, it seems blasphemous to me, LOL

anyone else having a problem with the tires blowing out while trying to get to that 200 point mark? I reached 200 once, but I looked like a drunk driver trying to do a slalom course in the rain to get those 200 points, and took about 15 minutes. Every since, though, the tires pop and I can't drift. What gives?

okay Odogg, got good news. Me and my buddy played around with settings tonight, and the drifting is now playable with a wheel.

Soon as he changed these settings, he beat the first drift thing within a matter of a minute, then beat the second one in about 3 minutes, and beat the last one in no time. The car is drifting like it should. Here is our settings, use this as a base and let me know how it does:

                              feedback - 100
                              steer dead - 0
                              steer sensitivity - 100
                              throttle deadzone - 0
                              throttle sensitivity - 100
                              brake dead - 5
                              brake sensitivity - 36
                              clutch dead - 5
                              clutch sensitivity - 50
                              speed sensitivity - 96
                              speed sensitivity (drift) - 99
                              steering lock - 360
                              steering lock (drift) - 300

Try these and report back. These worked for us, and we couldn't get JACK going on before this. This is on PS3 on a logitech GT driving force.
