    Re: iRacing Usernames

Well, we didn't make much progress... we were all the way in the back in the standings and stayed there the entire night.

I lowered the track bar on the left rear and it made it better but it was still dog slow.

Yeah Terry, not much progress was made on a set-up last night. Tinkered around with weight distribution, gear ratio, and track-bar, but nothing made a substantial difference that was sustaining. I had enough front bite to get off the corner, but it I was always .500 to .750 slower than the leader.

This was a set-up just uploaded on iRacing for Texas NW COT by David Holak. Try it and see if you like it.

Certainly gets into the corner better for a longer period. I could only get to like a 30.4 with it, but I only lost about .4 to .6 over a 6 or 7 lap test run. With the Advanced I was losing more than a second.

Here is what my team is running at Daytona (Nationwide COT), not blazing fast, but we can draft together pretty good.

Yeah, but I am in this for the long haul now. This has made every other racing game feel inferior. While it's not perfect, it is a blast. Even just practicing at Texas the other night, I ended up turning over a 100 laps w/o even thinking about it......

                    Re: iRacing Usernames

Yep. And the funny thing I noticed with the new tire model--guys that can turn almost a full second slower than the "hot lap" guys running those 29.x actually end up faster over the course of a run.

That was never more apparent to me than in that Texas practice. I was down in the 30.3 range, which had me about 10th or 12th at the time. But Manny and Bob just drove past me and yarded me after about 5 or 6 laps.

I had to really think about what I was doing so wrong, as it was pushing so hard that I could barely get into the corner. Then seeing guys talking about race paces actually being wayyyyyy slower than hot laps, it made a lot more sense. Guys turning 30.8 for a bunch of laps in a row instead of 30.3, then 30.6, then 31.2, 31.5, etc. I mean, it seems like common sense, but it's never been an issue in iRacing before the NTM.

I REALLY think I love it, but I need a lot more seat time to find out exactly how hard to push it and how to drive the car in a race now. Having Road America and then Daytona as the first 2 tracks really sucks, as it doesn't teach us as much as Atlanta or Texas or something would have.

That's what I am doing right now Terry, just getting a ton of seat time. Even in the races I have been doing, don't care if I start last, because guys fall off so fast, it's just a matter of time before I start moving up towards the front of the pack, as their tires are melting away.

Manny and I are going to start hosting more events, before we start the league. We want people to feel comfortable and get to know each other. The tracks we want to host at are not going to be super speedways, but a lot of Texas, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami.....

Tracks that force a person to try different lines, and take care of their tires.

Well, I'm officially a fan of his darn thing! Always said I wouldn't bite but here I am neck deep into testing trying to find new lines at every track. And im just having a blast.

I did three hosted public races yesterday (Atlanta, Bristol and Texas). I faired well in all of them since I use the take "care of your tires" mindset. I think I've benefitted from so much NR2003 2xs and 4xs tire wear racing. (Thanks, Bob!)

I was almost got booted from Atlanta the race. We were running a 50 lapper and guys just started hot lapping from the start. During practice, the host had asked the crowd if he should boot me since I was just a rook. Luckily, one guy told him to keep me in there. ("The Rook wants to run with the big boys, let's see what he's got!") I ended up in 5 of 26! Not too bad for a rook.

My problem now seems to be that I don't wear my tires enough. I finished the race with 40% wear remaining on the right front. Others were calling out 15-25% wear.

When your va jay jay dries out, and get a little more comfortable....you will get a little more aggressive Run. Thats what Terry and I were just talking about. It is going to take a lot of seat time to find a very good line, but not melt your tires. Seat time is the only thing that can do this.

Currently racing as James Taylor4, in rookie class. Forgot my emails were different and I just signed up again today. I asked them if they could transfer the subscription over to my other account. James C Taylor, because obviously I have the Class C licsene over there. I miss this game and now have all other gaming rendered obsolete to me now.
