Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
Thanks guys for not being jerks about the explanation!
After all, I am still a noob at F1, LOL.
I actually realized my stupidity last night and noticed you can do this in both grand prix and career.
I am proud to say that I turned a 1:21.093 lap at Melbourne in a McLaren on grand prix mode last night! Its taken alot of practice but hopefully I can translate my new found speed into all the other tracks!Comment

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
Mind you I have TC on Full as Im still getting used to the other tracks.
I use a 360 controller.
Also, was running a short 10% race with tire wear off. Was able to get the lap in qualy. Turned 1:22's consistently. Used KERS mostly on front straightaway and a little bit on every long 'semi straight'... not sure what to call it. KERS seems to be most effective between 4-6 gear. Used DRS every chance I got.
Yet, like you Ive logged countless laps at Melbourne to get the hang of the driving model. I think Im getting there now though.
Aero: FW-9
RW-10
Brakes: F- 52% R-48%
Pressure-High
Size-Standard
Front Anti-Roll Bar-9
Rear Anti-Roll Bar-9
Front Ride Height- 1
Rear Ride Height- 1
(May have to run Height at 2 with Sim settings; sparks were flying in race replay the entire time... looked kind of cool though LOL)
Front Spring Stiffness-9
Rear Spring Stiffness-9
Kept the camber settings neutral(default) as I found whenever I change it either way it hurts me in certain turns.
Raised Toe In settings 2-3 notches for both.
Believe the numbers were .41 and -.12.
Raised 7th gear slightly.. cant remember the number.
Fuel set to standard
Let me know how it goes.. hope this works for you.Comment

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
F1 2011 has plenty of driving assists..
Braking Assist: On/Off
ABS: On/Off
Traction Control: Full/Medium/Off
Dynamic Racing Line: Entire Track/Corners Only/Off
Transmission: Auto/Manual Sequential
Pit Assist: On/Off
There are also 4 AI difficulties(cant remember what they are all called)
You can also turn tyre wear & fuel simulation on or off.
It also has flashbacks which are similar to rewinds in Forza.Comment

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
No new impressions since Oct 9? Pretty quiet around here......is it because of Forza's release?
I'm still thinking of getting F1 for PC, but currently Best Buy doesn't have it......Comment

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
I've had this game now for a while, and have tried to play it each night, but I have gotten to the point, where it has become too frustrating. I know it's a true simulation, but I am having a heck of time, being competative even at the easiest settings. I've played pretty much every racing game ever, and this one, although realistic, is too frustrating for the casual gamer even with brake assist on. That seems to be my biggest problem, is the inability to control the cornering, as I find the brakes not effective enough, meaning that takes too long to slow down. Again, I understand the realism and simulation that the game portrays, but should have put a bit more thought into the fact that the casual more arcade style player may also want to play the game. I am not talking like making the game into a total arcade experience, but could be a bit easier if the user so wanted. Maybe I am just a spaz, but I have a real issue with the braking, anyhow, I read one guy here has run over 500 laps on Australia for practice, man, I praise the guy, but I don't have that sort of time or want,,, I just would like to pick up the game and have a fun experience playing the game without getting frustrated beyond belief. It is a wonderful game, but I truly feel that the difficulty level at the easiest settings is even too much, and will deter many people. I've played dirt 3, shift 2, forza 4, turismo 5 and also the Formula One Championshop on the PS3 , and although challenging in the later stages or when you crank up the difficulty levels, I find them all fun and much easier at their lower setting. Perhaps they can have the option to tone it down a bit in 2012 if the user so desires. Maybe this game is not for me,,, and it's to frustrating that the fun factor is gone for me,,, anyhow my thoughts onlyComment

I'm not an F1 fan per se', in that I've only watched two races and don't know the teams/drivers very well at all. And I find F1 2010 and now 2011 quite challenging as well, but in a good way. This is a driving game that, moreso than most driving games, requires practice even on the easiest settings.
First it's you against the track, then it's you against the clock, and finally it's you against the competitors. Take it on as a challenge to your reflexes. Take each track at moderate speed your first couple of times around, then start speeding up once you get to know the track and what speeds you can corner at. It's really rewarding as you continue to best your lap speeds and nail those troublesome sectors.GO 'HAWKS!

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
Moose, your thoughts and frustrations on the game are valid. But I think what Codies is doing with F1 is purposefully catering to the sport's fanbase rather than the casual player. However, F1 has tremendous popularity world-wide, so even the F1 hardcore makes up a lot of sales.

The 500 laps practice I did on Melbourne was for a league race, where the competition is very stiff, so I had to find every tenth of a second I could out of the car. The more you play this game, the better, faster, and less assists you'll need. Before you know it, you'll be playing on legend, and it'll be the perfect difficulty for you.
Some other tips, turn off braking line, and braking assist....they both will hamper your ability to drive and improve. The racing line is probably the worst thing you can use, because you become married to the racing line, instead of knowing where your braking points are yourself, and being able to adjust mid-entry depending on your entry speed and angle of attack.Comment

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
Just bought this a couple of days ago. I'm a big F1 fan so I'm loving every moment I spend w/ this game....The only gripe that I have is the fact that there's no 10% option for career races...20% is too long for me(I like my sports games to last 20-30 minutes per game/race). 3 laps is way too short...I just don't see why the 10% option was removed for career mode.Comment

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
I am a big auto racing fan and I love F1. I debated buying this game after buying last year's version and being disappointed. I just couldn't get into F1-2010 and felt it really lacked something.
But this year's version is wow. I love it. It's so addictive. The feel of the cars, the sound, the handling, it's all great. It's a blast to just get into a car and practice and try to shave those last few hundreds off of your time yet alone get into a race and go for victory.
I'd enjoy comparing times with some of your guys so I could learn and improve and maybe get in some races too. I'm not great but I am getting better. Between this and Forza 4 my steering wheel is taking permanent residence in my living room.
I am racing on the XBOX and I've sent out some friend requests and feel free to add me too.

Re: F1: 2011 Impressions and Discussion
Rain is starting to frustrate me. The AI is putting up just ridiculous times in the rain compared to what I can do.
Something else that frustrates me about the rain...I had a Q1 where it was pouring as hard as I've ever seen it. I BARELY managed to get 17th to get into Q2, which is supposed to be immediately after...not a cloud in the sky, you'd never know it rained 10 minutes earlier in Q1. Q3 comes...it's raining again. I get the weather can change pretty quick, but that didn't strike me as realistic.
Any advice on a rain setup, or if anyone else would also like to complain about the AI putting up ridiculous times in the rain would make me feel better.Comment
