Are Sim Racing Series on the PC Going Extinct?

One of the reasons that I migrated over to PC gaming in the past year or so was because of the platform containing so many racing series sims: Nascar Racing 2003, GTR 2, Simbin's "Race" titles with all their expansions, etc. I still love these titles and continue to play them. The physics, pit stop strategy, race rules, competing at multiple tracks for a championship, etc. are something I really enjoy. I race against the AI (don't enjoy non-clean online behavior), and these games can be modded for your specific tastes.

In present day, however, the landscape seems to have been changing for quite some time. The only relatively new series PC titles that I can point to is F12013 and Nascar the Game. However, I'm not a huge fan of F1 and Nascar the Game is still teething.

So then, what about GT, touring car, or similar series? Well, DTM Experience just came out, but it has no pit stops (at least for now), which really turns it from a sim to glorified expansion of Simbin's Race Room Experience--which, by the way, I loathe because it's the whole F2P, microtransactions model that will most likely focus on sprint type races with various cars. Apparently their leadership doesn't want to go the way of formal series championship titles like GTR 2 anymore, which probably explains why we've heard nothing about GTR 3 and probably never will.

Now granted, GT and touring car road racing is more popular in Europe and the like, but even still, where are the (new) titles? Simbin was the only one making them and now they're going in other directions. Don't get me wrong, the Assetta Corsa's and Project CARS of the world have their place and I'll enjoy them for what they are, but man, the dearth of new "GTR's" and "Race On's" is disappointing.

I'll continue to enjoy GTR 2 and the like, but if nothing new comes out, what does that say about PC sim (series) racing for the future?

You have some valid concerns in your post flame. There are still some quality titles out there, or will soon be coming - most of which you mention in your post.

    GSC 14
    DTM14(with MP and pits stops)
    rFactor2(still in infant stage)
    NASCAR 15(PC)
    F1 2014
Project Cars(Not sure how "sim" this title will be")

But I get your point, the landscape is not what it once was sir. I have also been told that the possibility of iRacing incorporating AI cars is real - but not in the immediate future.

As long as iRacing is still in business, sim racing on the PC isn't going away.

As a member of Project Cars and a tester of new builds, I can say that the game is fully customizable so everyone can enjoy it the way he/she likes. The handling model is on the "sim" side and the physics too. Asseto Corsa's handling model is great too and feels more "sim" but it lacks on physics right now. Both games are on early stages (Project Cars is alpha) so they're is room for improvement.

I've been a member of iRacing for over 2 years now and it's outstanding in many ways.

Although part of me yearns uncontrollably for a new BTCC game, an FIAGT or WEC game, because we don't all want to play the F2P stuff when we need serious gaming.

We need something where we can sink our teeth into proper championships against competitive AI, and maybe even a progressive career mode like MotoGP or SBK have.

According to EmptyBox you need to try Game Stock Car 2013... Many people pass on it because they don't know much if anything about the Brazilian series and tracks featured.

Watch the entire race and you be the judge.

I actually haven't got 2013 yet, but I do have GSC 2012. I plan to get 2013 sometime, though.

Wow, after watching these videos, I never realized what Game Stock Car was. I'm definitely getting this. Thanks for bringing this up!

Just picked up Assetto Corsa - which I am in love with, and I picked up Game Stock Car 13 last night - Only played it for about 15 mins, but very promising. We raced the hell out of GSC 2012, so I am excited to get back into 2013 version -

Flame - you need to jump on with runN1st and myself, and turn some laps with GSC 2013 -
