    This.

As I said, I'm a 100% racing line user, but if you're going to go without it, just start slowly and go a bit faster each time around. Use the replay/rewind function to go back and fix your blown turns each time.

Think of each track as learning to play a new song on an instrument. Start slow, work out the parts, and you'll get faster as you go.

Also, look for visual markers around the track. These markers are how it’s done in real life whether it’s a 100M board before a turn or a simple tree/ coloring of barrier alongside the track. These are key, as they never change depending on time of day and are stationary. If you use shifting things like shadows, it will change depending on time of day and your braking will be off.

Hope this helps. Start slowly and work your way up. You can also watch the cpu drive laps during practice, or find hot laps on YouTube.

Re: F1 2018 Review: Perhaps One of the Best Racers Ever

As Dan will testify, I am a glutton for punishment and as I read thru this thread I thought I would drop my $.02

I play on PS4 Pro and I have played all of the F1 games. I have even been lucky enough to attend a few community days and events. I play F1 almost as much as I play The Show.

I play with the following settings on Controller

        AI at 90
        All Assists off
        Manual everything
        Cockpit view

I know these tracks very well and can be competitive with just about any team on any track, using setups alone. Notice I said competitive not winning. F1 is not all about winning, consistency is the key. I have beaten many a driver in games like this that are turning a faster hot lap than I do ( not that I can't) Because why they melt their tires pulling 1:24:00 's. I run a 25/26 but can do it every single lap without extreme tire wear of fuel usage. So instead of a 2 or 3 stop I can do a 1 stop with an over cut and all of the sudden they are chasing me with a :20 gap on brand new tires.

But when I first started playing these games, I couldn't get off the line without spinning my tires and putting my nose in a wall. But that is just the way I play. I like the challenge and the effort and the time it takes to master a track. I don't use time trials or hot laps or practice races. I take the season as it comes, I run the practice sessions, I adjust my cars, I take notes and I study replays. But again that is the kind of gamer I am.

If you are even slightly like me, then I advise you to turn everything off now as it will actually only slow you down in the long run. If you are not like me? Man you are lucky, turn all that crap on and have a blast. That is what makes gaming great in this day an age. The majority of games can be set to how YOU want to play and for the experience YOU want to get out of it. Don't ever let someone else dictate how you get enjoyment out of you precious time and money.

At Sandy don’t let that sway you from this game. The resource points are a plenty in this this game especially with races and contracts.

Also I have had to increase my difficulty because my R D was making too many gains based off where Williams is at. So I must be better than I originally thought. Also on rainy races what setup do you all use I use preset 3 and cannot make it around the track competitively.

Believe it or not I had never played on a console before MLB The Show 06. I was strictly a PC gamer and pretty much only played racing sims and Tony Larussa Baseaball from Stormfront Studios. I competed at a pretty high level with both Nascar and Grand Prix Legends from Papyrus back in the 90's.

Man you want to talk a brutal learning curve. Grand Prix Legends was no joke. Even for the die hard pros, that game would break you quick. Still to this day in my opinion, one of the best physics models and just brutal racing sims. It was basically the Demon Souls of racing games.

Imagine, if you all will bear with me for a bit, driving a V12 450bhp car. That is open cockpit, no aerodynamics AT ALL, barely any suspension on regular hard treaded tires. No pit stops, no tweaks to the car, no tire changes. Just you, the car and the track. Nurburgring then was a 14 mile course for one lap. People would crash and several died before the crashes were even found.

Ill say this, resource points are bountiful this year, but just wait until the upcoming season rule changes get announced in your career mode. You'll likely find yourself re-doing everything you already did in at least one department. You'll basically end up having to "adapt" every part you've upgraded to meet the next seasons new rules. That's going to stop your R&D development dead in its tracks likely. For me, it was the chassis that was facing rule changes. I had I think 9 upgrades through the year, and now am "adapting" those upgrades to the next years rule changes so I don't lose my progress. So I've paid for the full upgrad already, now you're into it for another 50%

My 1st win came in a fashion that I have never experienced before. In Canada, I was running second about 5 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton and 8 seconds ahead of Botas with half a lap to go so i was content on settling for 2nd. Then Hamiltons car slowed considerably going around the final corner and I went screaming by almost taking him and me out in the process. He as it turns out ran out of gas. Couldn't have been a tire as he pitted 7 or 8 laps prior. But I'll be more than glad to take the win. He ended up 4th. Behind my self, Botas, and my teammate Hulkenburg.

If memory serves (shaky, there!) I though that it's been said by some teams that the sport is outgrowing that track, in a way? It's too tight for today's cars to have any kind of real racing there?

But I agree, that track murders me, EVERY single year.

Think it's hilarious that the primary reason they stopped racing at Watkins Glenn (30 miles South West of where I live) is because it no longer met F1's safety requirements, especially when it comes to runoff areas and such. Yet Monaco literally has ZERO runoff areas hell it doesn't even have a shoulder. The wall to either side of you is the shoulder.

You won't need to hit the off season for the rule changes.

If I remember correctly, it was sometime around the 10-12th race or so that your guy in the data center announces the potential for rule changes. They get pretty specific, saying the rumor is changes will affect one of the R&D departments. So it will either be chassis, engine, or aero. In my case, they warned about rule changes to the chassis, and warn you to essentially stop spending resources upgrading it in case of a rule change.

Then, I believe it was the Singapore weekend that another announcement was made that the rule change was made official (Not sure if it will ever be unofficial?).

Essentially what happens is any upgrade you have acquired in the department with the rule changes will require further upgrade to comply with the new rules. You still get the benefit for the current season of that particular upgrade. However, in order for it to carry over you must adapt the part to the new rules. The cost can be steep, it's 50% of the regular cost for that upgrade. You'll have the next 7 weeks to adapt the parts. If you don't adapt them to the new rules, they will need to be re-purchased for the following season.

So in a nutshell, if they announce aero changes, stop buying new aero upgrades, and start saving up some extra resource points if you had purchased alot of aero upgrades that year, because you'll need to adapt them to the new rules, or lose them.

As I said earlier in this thread, I now see why resource points are a bit easier to come by this year.
