Why do companies use the excuse that car manufacturers don't want damage modeling?

Forza doesn't seem to have a problem with this but alot of game developers say this. Is there something that microsoft is doing special(extra money) that allows them to have damage on the cars? Why would a company care if a car shows damage on it?

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Please don't buy into the Sony BS PR crap. The reason Gran Turismo doesn't use damage modelling is because the "PS2 System" can't handle it.

"Sony" decided to go with the pretty game instead of the demands of trying to model damage which uses precious CPU resources. So we still have a game that just like the last three....boring.

Can't wait for Forza and Toca Race Driver 3

Anyway the PS2 can't handle a damage model and still keep GT4 looking as good as it does and run at 60fps. Its not PR its a fact, if they had damage GT4 would look like every other racing game on the PS2. This is pretty much beating a dead horse, the game is what it is, don't like it don't buy.

I never knew the reason for why they couldn't or wouldn't put damage into the game. That's why i asked.

Cool man do you, not trying to argue or anthing, but fact is the system is being spent as it is and a damage model the way PD would have wanted just wouldn't work on the PS2's weak hardware.

This has been talked about to death already. I'm going to enjoy the game regardless. I'll pick up Forza when it drops and have both games to boot.

                        .
Nah I ain't arguing. GT4 is a pretty game no doubt. It's just a been there done that (GT1, GT2, GT3). I'm looking for something more from the Gran Turismo Series maybe GT5.

My problem with the whole Sony PR/BS crap is they keep saying that they can't get the license to show damage on their cars. Total crap ask pk500.

The fact is the Playstation2 can't handle a damage model. If the PS2 could I still think they would have excuses. The artwork and time involved to show damage for 700+ cars is labor and time intensive. It would add even more time to the finished product.

Fact is the Gran Turismo series needs to add damage modelling, a solid racing AI, and a cockpit view.

                        just my .02 cents

                        Enjoy GT4

Car companies are fickle about this issue. Some companies will, others won't. If they do agree on car damage the damage will be minimal. Why do you think Burnout 3 had to use fake cars.. They couldn't get lic cars due to extreme car damage. It has nothing to do about the PS2 not being able to handle it. If The Ps2 can handle 1080i res, 700 cars, 50 plus tracks, I'm sure it could handle damaged cars.
