I've seen some cheaper Japanese PS3's for sale. I guess you can change them to english but I also heard that North American PS2 titles would not be backwards compatible. Is that true and what about Blu Ray movies? Should I just try to find a deal on a North American PS3? Any reason for me not to get the 20 GB version if I don't care about WIFI or the size of the hard drive?

More details from a French source (first the exclusive vids, now some leaks on the Sixaxis Shock. France, FTW):

- the gyroscopic functions can cohabit with the vibrations. The explanation? The speed to which a player can move the lever is quite lower at the speed of the vibrations. - the engine of vibration could be inclu in the lever without having to modify the form of it. There is enough place for the new engine, and this one, concus by Immersion, are lighter for an obstruction equivalent. - One indeed has to expect a reduction in the autonomy of Sixaxis. Nevertheless, the new engine of vibration does not consume more than the old models (Dualshock) in spite of the fact that it is more powerful. - the new engine is less expensive to build, and a possible rise in price of the pad should be only very light. - With an update of the firmware, we will be able to have the vibrations for plays PS2

One more question about the PS3 - is the HDMI cable required just an ordinary HDMI cable? No special thing needed for the PS3?

Thanks. I'm getting really itchy to buy a PS3. I'm still waiting for that price drop though. I can at least wait to hear about the football impressions for the PS3 in two weeks.

Rumor PLAYSTATION 3 $100 Price Cut Hits July 15

According to a poster on the DVD Talk Forums, the Circuit City promotional sales flyer for the week of July 15th indicates the PLAYSTATION 3 will be getting a price drop. The PS3 is now listed at $499 for the week of July 15-21, the week after E3 2007. This should be considered rumor for now until we receive confirmation from Sony, but I'm guessing we'll hear more about this at next week's E3 press conference.

According to a poster on the DVD Talk Forums, the Circuit City promotional sales flyer for the week of July 15th indicates the PLAYSTATION 3 will be getting a price drop. The PS3 is now listed at $499 for the week of July 15-21, the week after E3 2007. This should be considered rumor for now until we receive confirmation from Sony, but I'm guessing we'll hear more about this at next week's E3 press conference.

Its now C$549 in Canada and I will have one in my hands in two weeks. I will be getting NCAA football and the Show as well. I'll try to see what I can get for my old PS2 and stuff as well. Maybe EB will have a trade in special again.

Okay I may be in the market for a PS3 soon, but I have some questions before taking the plunge.

1) Backwards Compatibility, is it for every game or like MS where only very few games, and even fewer games one plays are compatible.

2) I know about the Frame rate differences between the 360 and PS3, but for a casual gamer how big of a difference are we talking?

3) Reliability, this thing isn't the same POS the 360 is right? It doesn't seem like I see this forum littered with people complaining unlike the 360.

1) Backwards Compatibility on the PS3 is much better than the 360.

2) 60FPS vs 30FPS is a big deal on any system.

3) Reliability is much better on the PS3. Some reports say 1-5% failure for the PS3 vs 30-33% for the 360.

The bigger question is graphics, game selection and online. This is where the PS3 gets buried six feet under.
