Any word on the 2.0 firmware update? I think they were supposed to update the XMB or something, allowing for communicating with your friends while in games I think...

Any word on when the next update may be coming down the line?

Also, what's the deal with Home? Is that going to be their version of Xbox Live?

So in the next month or so I'll finally have the finances to make the jump to true next gen and I'm pretty much 90% sure I'll be getting a PS3. Now that NHL is on the horizon and everything I've read or heard about it says it will be amazing I just can't wait any longer. Anyways I don't have an HDTV and don't really see the point in buying a 400 or 500 dollar set that will be smaller than the one I have now just so I can play in HD.

My question is if anyone here uses an LCD monitor with the PS3. Comments or complaints. I'd much rather spend what looks like 200 or so bucks for a decent LCD monitor than buy a crap HDTV. Any suggestions on specific models. Also what are the cables I need to buy, I've been reading about HDMI and DVI and HDMI to DVI adapters but I'm still not exactly sure what comes with the PS3 and what extra adapters or cables I need, is it just the HDMI to DVI adapter?

Well, you would need to somehow get your audio out as well. And HDMI to DVI cable won't carry audio, just the video signal.

Oh I know, that won't be problem. My stereo is right next to where my PS3 and monitor will probably go and I already have multiple sets of extension cables and what not so audio is definitely taken care of.

Oh yeah, also can you play the PS2 version of MLB the show, cause there's another 50 bucks I can get if I trade in my PS2 since that's really the only game I play.

My guess is that 2.0 will come out around the same time that Home launches which is supposed to be October.

And Home is I think a step above Xbox Live. In Home, you can walk around a virtual world to meet other PS3 players. You will create a character and also have your very own virtual apartment.

I have also heard that developers(EA for example) will have their own apartments or spaces in Home where you can view trailers of upcoming titles. Its being rumored right now as well that Home will have these same developers paying consumers to advertise in your virtual apartment. How that is going to work exactly, or even if its true, I don't know.

I would put it past EA in this structured environment that they might charge you a fee at the door to come into their HOME. LOL!

My concern is that Home will put even more stress on Sony's online infrastructure which is already weak. We'll see how it turns out although i'm not into the My Space, Home kinda of thing. I would prefer rather than all the gimmicks they just make a kick *** online experience where you can play your favorite games without getting kicked off every 2 minutes.

I still have not been able to play of MLB 07 online, that's pathetic Sony.

I bought an HDMI cable to hook up my PS3 to my TV plus, obviously, an HDMI to DVI connector. A strange thing happened after hooking this up:

The PS3 automatically detected that my best possible video quality was 1080i. The person at Best Buy said that this setup should result in a 1080p signal. Was he wrong? Can I only run at 1080p? Am I doing something wrong?

You have to have a 1080p HDTV for it to display in 1080p. Sounds like you have a regular HDTV and not Full HDTV set. Hope this helps.

Yep. I have my PS3 ran through an HDMI to DVI cable with sound through optical cable. All I can get is 1080i because the tv only supports 1080I not P. I will be getting a 1080P tv after the first of the year.

Has there been any word on whether or not the PS3 will support in-game custom oundtrack features...this is especially good for fighting/sports/racing games.
