Rez HD and Chessmaster Live hit XBLA this Wednesday

This week, two new titles are hitting Xbox LIVE Arcade. Judging from many posts around different forums, many have been looking forward to the release of Rez HD. If you're a fan of those games that look-amazing-but-you-really-don't-know-what's-going on-yet-you-manage-to-progress-by-shooting-all-of-the-wonderous-shapes, then this game is for you.

On the other hand, if you're looking for a game of a much slower pace, check out this week's release of Chessmaster Live. Who would want to play Global Thermonuclear War, anyway?

      Couple Rez HD reviews

      1UP

Five years later, Rez has been rereleased as a downloadable title in full HD, and it's time for all of us to set things right. In every sense, the original Rez was a game that was ahead of its time -- this version unequivocally proves it. Rez should have been released in HD. It should have been a downloadable game. And it should have come out in 2008. Not to disparage the efforts of those involved with producing the original, but in retrospect, Rez HD is absolutely the game that should have been released all along.
      IGN

Rez HD is a rail shooter at its core, but the sum of its parts makes it so much more than that. The psychedelic visuals kick off the presentation to let you know right off the bat that this is going to be different from most anything else you've played. Then the music comes in, slowly at first while the controller begins thumping to the tune. As you play you'll begin to notice that your attacks on enemies weave extra layers to the trance music. You're not creating the song per se; you're just rounding it out. That's when Rez hits you. The sounds, visuals and vibrations come together as one to make the gaming experience something special.

        Things on Wheels Announced

Tomorrow, Southpeak Games will be announcing an Xbox Live Arcade game developed by Load Inc., the creators of Mad Tracks. TeamXbox.com has learned that Things On Wheels (ToW) is an over-the-top racing game that puts players at the helm of RC cars as they race through a gigantic Florida Art Deco house filled with “tracks” comprised from everyday household items and a few other surprises...

Races in ToW take place on nonlinear tracks that go from room to room in an expansive house. Normal, everyday objects become obstacles and hazards for player’s miniature vehicles to race through. Any challenge could have a player picking up speed in the straightaway of the foyer, dodging the searing coils of the electric stove, catching some air to clear a stack of magazines in the way, and thousands of other possibilities.

“Load Inc. wanted to do something brand new with the racing genre, and this really appealed to us,” said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games. “Competing with real life remote control cars is great fun, so why not do it in a videogame? ToW delivers the same reckless thrill.”

“ToW is what the Xbox LIVE Arcade community has been asking for since day one. It’s a competitive racing game with bits of fun and lots of interactivity if you just want to goof around. After Mad Tracks, we had to concentrate on just racing, but always with a twist,” said Denis Bourdain, big wig at Load Inc. “It’s a fresh racing experience we built on everything we’ve learned in the past 12 years, and it will rock you! We’re very proud to be working with one of the sexiest publishers today. All of our developer friends are just plain jealous. SouthPeak rules!”

Well, it wasn't that easy. The guy pretty much told me that I needed to recover my gamer tag on a friends machine and download it, then I could download on mine when I got it back. I don't really know anybody else with a 360 around here. He then told me I could call back when I got it and it would be a "lengthy" process, and it would need to be "escalated", but I could get it done that way. What gives? I thought this was supposed to be easy.
The DRM on your game if you dl'ed it on a friends then onto yours would be jacked. It'd think your friend's xbox was the "home xbox" and only that one could you play without being logged onto Live. MS isn't handling digital rights at all with all these systems dying. Wouldn't be an issue otherwise.

Downloaded The Club and Turning Point Demos.

The Club was...ehhh....ok. A little too "mindless" for me.

Turning Point was pretty darn cool in my opinion. Original idea...kind of feels like a cross between Crimson Skies and Bio Shock to me. I like the new "retro feel" to some of the FPS games.

I liked the concept of the game and the atmosphere in the demo, but I really didn't like the controls.

Exactly how I felt. The story is top notch and the atmosphere is alright, but control and gameplay graphics-wise, I felt like I was playing an Xbox 1 game

No doubt the graphics are out dated major!!! Looks like a rip of Bioshock viewed through a RF-Unit! With the Spiderman 3 engine on the city. Game was bad on those levels, and the enemy A.I. is mentally challenged.
