Re: PS3 Fan Noise Question
I've had my PS3 since launch and my fan has always kicked in like that within 10 minutes after turning the PS3 on. I can definitely hear my fan, but its nowhere near as loud as the 360. I've never had a single problem with it overheating. I wouldn't worry too much about it.My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment

Re: Need help with PS3 Blu Ray upconverting DVD's...
It's the movie itself. The Departed is a notoriously horrible SD transfer. Tends to be a ploy on some studios part to get you to buy the HiDef version. My SD version of the Departed was terrible at 480P and the upscaled version just magnifies EE and the compression issues of it. It is unwatchable. So I traded it in and will get the BR version (just like the studio planned). Kinda sucks but it's hard to watch anything in SD these days no matter how good it can look. BR just owns. SP3 is another terrible SD transfer which oddly enough is offered in BR with the PS3.
In fact about half my collection looks worse upconverted and I have traded them in and got some good BB store credit back for some. Considering I didn't watch most of them it, it gave me a good excuse to get rid of them. At least it gave me some store credit to buy some BR discs.
Some SD movies so far that looked great upconverted that you can try and see if the PS3 is not the problem is The Kingdom, Saving Private Ryan, Starship Troopers(superbit), Rain Man strangely enough.
You will be eventually trading almost all your reguler DVD's in anyways. I know it's a waste of money and right now you don't think you would but you will. The BR picture and more importantly the higher bit rate for sound and the uncompressed option that will be evetually available will make your regular DVD's as useful as your old VHS tapes were when DVD's came out. I've sold half my collection now, while they are still worth something and in a few months I'll probably have a handful left. I thought I wouldn't do this but it's inevitable since you can't get much better than 1080P in the foreseeable future so my BR buys are pretty safe. Saving Private Ryan, which i thought was reference sound a few years ago, now pales in comparison to any BR disc I have because of the higher bit rate and when that comes out on BR I'm all over it.
Visit www.hometheaterspot.com and they give you good info on the quality of BR movies where in some instances they are just slightly better than the SD movie(usually older movies) so it isn't worth upgrading because of the degradation of the source material.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 02-06-2008, 06:19 PM.Comment

Re: Thinking about getting a PS3, but.......
If I am in the wrong place for this forgive me. But I have a question. My 1st 360 is going throught the RROD problem. I am done. I am picking up a PS3 this weekend. Guys are there any problems like this that I should be prepared for or will I be satisfied with my purchase?
Again if I am in the wrong spot I apologize. Just really upset right now. THese systems are too expensive to be changing mid stream. But I can't deal with crap like the RROD its unacceptable how wide spread it is.
IS the ps3 the way to go?Comment

Re: Thinking about getting a PS3, but.......
40gb has been having problems with Call of Duty 4, but that is about it. If you can find the 60gb that is the best of Sony's 3 SKUsComment

Re: Thinking about getting a PS3, but.......
The picture on PS3 is incredible if you have the settings right, both for gaming and Blu-Ray.
IMO, the best part of the PS3 are:
Picture quality
Ease of access
Easier controls
Blu-Ray getting the contract that should end the HD war
No RROD type issues
The bad parts are:
Less storage space than the Elite (unless you buy an external hard drive)
The online system is trash compared to Xbox
Less games availableThrough music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment
