Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Didn't work. You can't swap HDD between PS3's. It starts up saying this HDD will need to be formated to work with this PS3.
There goes three years of gaming.

Wow, that is a pretty good price. I want the Move, and also thinking of getting a second PS3.
I may just have to bite on that!Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
So, I think I'm finally going to upgrade my hard drive since I'm down to 6 GB free and have deleted all old game save and data I no longer use. Is everything (such as game saves, DLC, game data) backed up and transferred to the new HD or are there certain things that won't.
My main concern is Rock Band exports and DLC. I'm just curious if I need to track down a copy of Rock Band to export the songs off again after upgrading.Comment

I believe if you use the backup utility, it will back up all the stuff on the HDD and then transfer it to the new HDD. Some instances, certain copy protected saves/files did not work. So, I think I'm finally going to upgrade my hard drive since I'm down to 6 GB free and have deleted all old game save and data I no longer use. I do know if you buy a whole new PS3, the transfer utility there copies EVERYTHING over on the new one, and wipes the original.

Yes you do. I just had to do this myself. Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Isn't there a feature now that can transfer data from PS3 to PS3 using some cable? I thought I heard this was added in a recent firmware update??
Edit; Although if you can't turn it on then that's pointless. DamOriginally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
So the back-up utility did not back up everything? Did it back up game data that is installed?
Can you give a quick run down of what it did and did not back up?
Also, what hard drive did you end up going with if you don't mind me asking? (need to upgrade ASAP for GT5)Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Well I guess there was some copyrght thing getting in the way from transfering my RB music. Not real sure but someone somewhere I can't remember told me this was the issue. It doesn't say that though, it just didn't transfer it. I had two track packs and RB 1 songs that I had to either Dl or transfer again. Huge Pain tbh.So the back-up utility did not back up everything? Did it back up game data that is installed?

Everything else went smooth with the exception of a couple of timed demos that had expired anyway.
This cheapo upgrade kit.

Edit; Also I had one protected Game save that didn't transfer either but i can't remember which game it was. The other protected ones transfered fine though.Last edited by Chef Matt; 11-20-2010, 12:56 PM.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Thanks for the info Chef. I do know there are rare instances where some copy protected saves will not transfer.
Also it kind of makes sense on the music for Rock Band as well.
As long as the "game data" transfers and I do not have to install every single game in my library, I will be happy.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Yeah all game data transfered fine. Although I found out yesterday that I had to reinstall patch 1.04 for Fight Night. Thanks for the info Chef. I do know there are rare instances where some copy protected saves will not transfer.

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
By your game I'm assuming you mean a purchased blu-ray PS3 game? If so then no you can't. By game data we mean the required install data 2-5gb or so, that most, if not all games require to DL to the HD when you first load it up.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. I do mean a purchased PS3 game. I did notice that when I was borrowing my nephew's system to try out, when I loaded The Show 10, it was getting a huge DL. So is this keeping the disc from spinning and wearing on the system?Comment
