Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...

Anyone having issues with the 4.25 firmware update? Checked out Sony's boards and there's 14 pages long of complaints. Tons of freezing going on. I've popped in Madden and each time I go to play within a minute or so, the game freezes, because of this 4.25 update. Just playing it the day before, there was no problem. Have had four freezes in a row.

Is it possible to roll back to a previous firmware?

This is the first time I'm hearing about issues with 4.25, I've been fine on my end and haven't heard any complaints from any friends.

People are reporting their PS3 just shutting off and not turning back on after installing this firmware update. Apparently you cannot rollback to a previous firmware, as I wish I could go back to the previous one I had.

Since last Friday, my PSN downloads have been absolutely terrible. Today they have seemed to improve a bit, but there are instances where they have been bad.

I've read about that too, plenty of people on the Sony forums are mentioning that. I cannot play Madden, just freezes every time I'm trying to play it.

Whoever is in charge of the forum that is working for Sony or whatever said they noticed they are getting quite a bit of feedback regarding this firmware update.

If anyone hasn't updated it yet, I wouldn't suggest doing so.

I haven't had any issues (knocking on wood). I've played MLB 10-12 The Show and NCAA 13, as well as watched a lot of shows on Netflix. No freezing, stuttering or slowdown in the games I've played.

Same here. So far so good. MLB, Mortal Kombat, Black Ops, Lego Batman 2 all have been woorking for me. I don't play madden on the PS3, so I don't know there.

Any reports on the heat output of the new Super Slim?

Same here, no issues at all. But don't we hear this with every firmware update? Someone makes a thread, and hysteria ensues from a vocal few (since most who are not having issues are not going to forums to complain).

                    I believe we do.

More than likely the yields are better with less power consumption. So I assume less heat overall. But no official reports until people get their hands on them.

I was thinking the same thing, update is installed and by dumb luck some people's system breaks and they blame the update. Never fails to happen.

This time is a little different though as it looks as if a Sony rep is actually asking for feedback on the systems being effective. That's more response then usual.

I'm guessing this isn't HDMI 1.4 capable. As in, being able to output DTS-HD MA or Dolby Digital TrueHD for 3D films.

Much the same, the fatty PS3's don't allow to bitstream either of those audio formats either. Everything is converted to LPCM. That's fine since it's still lossless, but I like that feature from the slims. I have a slim downstairs that, unfortunately, doesn't have the same audio equipment.

If my fatty dies, I'm going toward this in a heartbeat.

Sony to Support PS3 Until at Least 2015

The company's VP of hardware marketing has promised a number of undisclosed first-party games over the next three years

Sony's VP of hardware marketing John Koller has revealed the company will continue to support the PS3 until at least 2015 with a range of first-party content. "A lot of great content is coming," Koller suggested, continuing, "And over the next 2-3 years, the PS3 has got an incredible lineup."

In an interview with Gamespot, Koller also said "We're going to continue supporting the PS3 for the next few years. Absolutely. And we're going to continue supporting it not only that long, but as long as there is a development spigot that's running hot. And I can tell you right now, the development spigot for PS3 is very hot. A lot of great games coming."

Quite what these games may be remains a mystery, especially extending so far into the future, but it's interesting to ponder what this means in relation to when the PS4 will be released. It seems pretty likely that there's going to be some overlap between the PS3 and PS4 in terms of support, the question is for just how long?

                            Let the speculation begin!

Not too surprising. This is also no reflection on when a PS4 is coming out.

They supported the PSX and PS2 well into each successor's life cycle.

Just gives me less of a need to jump on the newest system just yet. The HD era and new games still impressing is better than any generation before it for longevity.

There is a whole host of issues with 4.25, I'm having issues with this too. It's starting to piss me off with Sony and their idiotic ways releasing FW every other month that goes untested.
