Mine too. And we're talking jet engine loud. So loud I had to either crank the TV full blast to hear it or put noise canceling headphones on. Seriously, that loud. I'll never forget the day I hooked the slim up and felt the relief of being able to hear my TV at normal levels.

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I have an air purifier in my room, and at the highest setting that thing almost sounds like a vacuum. That's what this sounded like. I assumed it was my purifier for a few seconds, then I noted the direction it was coming from. It jumped right up to that loudness, too. No transition period.
I'm just wondering if I should expect mine to die. I seriously don't want to hear that thing if it's going to be that loud for the rest of time, especially since I watch movies with it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
On my last phat PS3 I dealt with the noise for about a year. It was terrible because it was in the bedroom. I couldn't watch anything in bed after the wife went to sleep because it was just too loud. then gamestop did a big promo on system trade in's and I traded it before it YLOD for a slim.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Alright, new symptom:
I was watching Horrible Bosses [BD] with my friend on my PS3, and every seven minutes or so the "disc loading" icon would pop up for about five seconds in its spinning animation. Now, nothing happened during these times except for that, but it was there. I've never seen this before, and I just watched a movie two nights ago when I rented Mama from Redbox.
I'd say this and the fan are connected, but the latter sounds more like a Blu-ray drive issue. Either way, I'm just not too sure what to make of all of this. I haven't heard the fan since (and I played more Tomb Raider, plus the movie), but if it comes down to hearing the fan and seeing that icon every time I watch a film, I just won't let that be.
Anyone else want to jump in on this differential diagnosis?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I was on the phone with a Sony Playstation rep about another issue when they mentioned that the PS3 was not region free...told me that if I bought a UK game it would not play on a US PS3. I argued this was not the case but they were CONVINCED! Wonder why is that. So I called back and got another rep who said same thing. Even though I told them I owned Pro Spirits Baseball.
So I'm wondering are the Sony Reps THAT bad or is Sony planning to region lock its console?Unofficial OS Ambassador of "CPU vs. CPU"

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
What's the name/model of the USB charging cable for the controller? I know it's a pretty universal cable (at least it works for my external HDD and my camera and stuff), but I don't know the name of it. I'm trying to find it on Monoprice.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I only use my PS3 really to watch Blu-rays, but I recently whipped out my Logitech wheel to play GT5, and activated PS+ auto-update in the process.
Anyway, since then it has tried to download some of those apps (Life, Vue, Amazon Video) and has tried to install them. Every time there is an error that occurs during the installation, and when I restart the PS3 it force-rebuilds the database.
I still have storage room on my HDD, so I don't know why the errors are happening. Does that mean I won't be able to install anything on my PS3 anymore?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
