Last generation wasn't that much better.

Xbox with the Thompson drives and the PS2 slim was a disaster, for me anyway.

Although the ROD is way worse then anything last generation, last was still bad. The more powerful these systems get, the higher chance of breakdown unfortunately.

My Xbox never died, but had 2 PS2's die. Gamecube was a tank.

I don't buy that at all. The 360's problems aren't because of how powerful it is, they are caused by all of the corners cut in the design and engineering of the system to save money and release on time.

Which results to how powerful they are. The ATI Xenos didn't come cheap and MS went all out on some of the hardware while cut corners on others.

Same with PS3, high tech processor but now the BR problems are mounting up.

Yeah you can't interchange the HDDs without the other wanting to reformat.

Best thing you can do Kevin is do a complete back up on a flash drive. First delete everything you don't need and then do it. This is the best route to go.

I'm hoping they just send the same PS3 back to me, then it won't be a problem. The customer service rep said that most of the time with BR drive failures they just fix that and send the same system back. Who knows if she was telling the truth, but if that's the case then putting my 320gb hdd back in shouldn't be a problem. I have my game saves backed up and put my original 60gb hdd back in to ship off. If I have to start fresh it isn't that big a deal, the only problem is that my Rock Band and GH game saves don't back up.

I wish the backup utility for the PS3 supported NTFS drives, because then I would just do a full backup of my hdd in case I have to restore.

That sucks man. None of these systems are made worth crap this generation. All the 60 GB's seem to be dropping like flies recently (on this board anyway).

yeah it sucks. My brother's 80gb had a BR drive die within two months of getting his system, my 60gb has been solid since I got it in August of 07. I've always had pretty good luck with systems, I still have and use (especially the last couple days LOL) my launch PS2. My XBox 1 worked great other than my NIC card being fried due to lightning once. Nintendo consoles have always been great for me too. The $150 to fix it sucks, but at least it seems like it will be a relatively easy process to get it fixed. I just hope they send my system back so I can put my hdd back in without losing my Rock Band and GH game saves.

The good thing is I have a new game on the Wii (Grand Slam Tennis), so I still have a new game to play. The bad thing is I was renting Ghostbusters on the PS3 at the time, so I have to wait to get my PS3 fixed before I can fix it.

you are right. I read a book about it called " The xbox 360 uncloaked". It talked about the lead up to the release and how Microsoft engineers found out just before the release of the 360 that it would overheat. the problem was they wanted to be out 1st so they just ignored it.

yes, because they cut corners in the design process to reduce costs and speed up development. This happens a lot. The first xbox had problems as well, and the ps2 used cheaper plastic parts in the DVD drive that eventually caused dirty disk errors.

I agree with you there. All 3 systems have been crapping out on people left and right...........funny thing is that its been a common issue with each one.

Wii - graphics card overheats and fries itself. Mine did that. New system free
360 - RROD - Yep. After a good amount of time mine did that. Repaired free
PS3 - BD drives burn out. - Haven't had my 60GB do that yet... Hopefully not... but I am worried it will. I will NOT accept anything but the same system though. Original full BC via hardware system.

Yippee Skippeee is all I say to this generation of gaming.

Normally, hardware bundles are a spotty affair. A game you don't really want, or two games, one you kinda want, one you just do not want. But this bundle, on sale at Best Buy next Sunday, looks great!

Sent in by a Best Buy employee, and confirmed by other BB employees, it's an 80GB PS3 bundled with copies of two of the biggest games on the system: Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2. All that for the asking price of a standard PS3, $400.

It's one hell of a bundle. It's like getting a Wii with Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy, or a 360 with Gears 2 and Halo 3. But perhaps more importantly, it's also one hell of a saving; perhaps Best Buy need to clear out their stock of 80GB PS3s for oh, I don't know, a new PS3?

Now this is a hell of a bundle.

it is. Bundling in two great M rated games sure beats the hell out of MS's lame Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones kiddie bundle awhile back.

Still, they're only doing it to clear stock for the slim ps3. MS did the same thing with the Halo3/Fable 2 Elite bundle, which we now know will be phased out.
