Well my component cables came in this morning. And I have to say the quality is really good. Its a hair under the quality that my hdmi got but its good for now. But I'm comparing it to a 720p tv with hdmi and a 1080p with component. I can finally hit up some dungeons in Skyrim again. So def a good investment IMO.

      PS3 Firmware 4.10

In the course of today, a new system software update (v. 4.10) is for PlayStation ® 3 (PS3) published. The new features include:

The Internet browser has been improved, which optimizes the display of content and increases the accuracy when viewing page layouts. Some sites that previously could not be correctly displayed, including interactive websites, are now supported with the PS3 system software 4.10.

Every time your PS3 system to connect to PlayStation ® Network (PSN) are prepared in the time you can precisely set via the Internet. For this you go into the XMB (XrossMediaBar) on [Settings]> [Date and Time Settings] [Automatic Settings] to.

PSN account will be renamed Sony Entertainment Network account. The registration process and the credentials will remain the same.

In order to download PS3 system software version 4.10 requires at least 180 MB of free space on the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Well the component cables work great except when I turn my ps3 off then on the system default to composite. I have to manually switch it over everytime. Anybody know how to make it default to component?

Since I DL'd the system update everything seems to be smaller and skinnier. The wording looks smaller and the characters seem skinner. Does anyone else see this? Or is there something up with my system?

Everytime I turn on my PS3 it says the last time the ps3 was turned off it did not shut down correctly, the system hd could be corrupted. My ****in roommate treats my console like garbage. He dropped it from 3ft up and it landed on the hardwood floor.

I havent seen any issues but i hope it doesnt die soon.

I picked up the Sony branded Dualshock charging station and it's by far the best I've used. It has clips that go on the controllers, but they are really unobtrusive, unlike some I've seen with clips. The actual design is minimalist with no obnoxious glowing LEDs, it has a little heft so it stays where you put it. I've had other stands over the years but they were always more trouble than they were worth, in the end I kept using the USB port on my cable box, but that's not an option anymore since that box is long gone.

                $25 well spent.

I have the Energizer charging station and it is terrific. No clips

Yeah, I've had one and hated the PITA way the controllers plugged in. I've had Hori, Energizer, Nyko, some brand of induction charging mat and some brand that used clips (MadCatz maybe?). They were all some combination of obtrusive clips, annoying LEDs, PITA design, etc.

The Sony plugs in simply, has no LEDs and having used the controllers for an extended time haven't touched the clips even once.

Are there any major differences between the larger HD slim PS3 models?

I have a 40 GB PS3 and with so much digital content, I'm beginning to look real hard at my remaining GB space and finding myself concerned I won't be able to download the games I want - if I want them.

I'm very willing to enter the digital download age. I'm cool with it especially if I get the games at a discounted price and know I wouldn't make more than a couple bucks if I had the physical copy and returned them to GameStop.

But this is going to require I sell my 40 GB - concerned with how much I'll actually get for it - and then buy a newer slim model.

Anyone also know what steps I should take to insure I don't lose anything? I'm assuming I'll need to save files to an external hard drive?

Why don't you just add more memory to your current model?

                          Only difference is HDD size.

If you buy a new PS3, the data transfer utility effectively clones one PS3 to the other. Otherwise you would have to back up data to an external HDD or USB flash drive.

I did not know I could do this with a 40 GB fat model. Well then, that solves that problem. Is this something that's easy to do if you're an idiot when it comes to moving around computer parts?

I think buying more memory will solve my problem. But, to continue this particular discussion, I was hoping to use the existing PS3 for store credit toward a new one. I don't want to have that much store credit flowing around in my account if I just bought the new PS3 and then sold the older one later.

I definitely have more than enough external HDD space on my personal drives so I can take that route if necessary.

It's pretty easy to swap. Just make sure you back up your save data either online, or on an external drive. Google "swapping hard drives on PS3" and you should find it.

Swapping out the HD is extremely easy. Pop off a plastic face plate, unscrew one screw and slide out the HD carriage. Remove 40gb HD from carriage, replace with the larger HD and slide carriage back into the PS3.

You will need one other external memory source to back up the 40gb and then restore it back to the larger replacement.

Regarding the trade in process, if you backup the 40gb and buy a new one you will not be able to use backup to fully restore back to the new one. Some of the back up (copy protected game saves) is tied to the specific PS3.
