There was a leak about Sony introducing the white one to the US as some discovered documentation for it. Sony has said things change a lot so the documentation doesn't mean much.

I think they will introduce the white one shortly, I just don't think it will be for that price. If it does go at $299.99, that would be HUGE.

Wow this is insanely smart of Sony. Moving all these units to crush HD-DVD and make a buttload of money off of their own proprietary discs. Bravo I say.

I can see this happening actually mainly because the 80GB has been discontinued.

I'm sure they will release another version with a large HDD. Sony is doing a really good job of confusing their fan base with all these different versions. If the 80gb does get discontinued that will be the third PS3 to do so in a little more then a year.

If the white one hits, I might sell mine to get it.

That article states the black 40gig one will be $299 as well.

Considering I just bought one at the $399 price tag yesterday, I'm not real happy about this. I got it on Amazon so I doubt I'll be able to talk them into a $100 credit (assuming this is true and the unit will be priced at $299 very soon).

I paid $400 for my ps3 only a week ago or so, but again, early adapters. I'd rather have the ps3 sell than spite people for me having paid more for it already.

I don't think consumers are going to get confused by all this either, as Sony basically makes no attempt to market PS3 BC anymore, especially since the ps2's are selling so well. If cutting out backwards compatibility makes the system cheaper, both to produce and buy, then who cares. The money saved will allow you to even buy a brand new ps2. Sony is finding the best way to cut costs for gamers, without cutting the console's balls off, like MS did for the 360 core/arcade.

The 40 VS the 80 have difference but just none as drastic as not having a HDD as with the Xbox. The 360 never discontinued a console either. The core just became the arcade.

It might not confuse people like me and you but it will confuse others. I'm sure there will be two SKU on the market. If they cancel the 80 I think they will come out with a huge HDD. Around the 200gb range I'm thinking.

Well that hasn't been confirmed yet. Just rumors.

Along with a white PS3 is suppose to be released in the US along with a maybe a price drop.

I don't really care for a white one but that $299 price tag is about what i've been waiting on.

I don't really see myyself wooing over old PS2 games either but it would be nice to have BC if I wanted it.
