Was going to purchase a PS3 today, however I was told they discontinued the 80gb bundles, and I will have to wait until the MGS4 bundle is released to purchase a PS3 with Backwards compatibility. Not really a huge deal as I can always get a PS2 again.

My real question is 80gb really necessary??? How much do game saves really take up? I'm not a big guy on putting my music or videos on my system so maybe the 40gb would be okay? Can someone help me out on what type of PS3 I should get. Thanks for any help in advance.

I got the 40GB, 80GB is good but you will find yourself putting stuff on it.
Most games are now starting to have 1-4GB caches to reduce loading times.

I would wait for the MGS Bundle if I were you

I have the 40gb, and I updated it myself to a 120gb.

I was thinking of recommending that to him FF but with the rumored 80 GB bundle he'll get the new DS3 controller AND MGS4.

Who knows how long you will be waiting for that, though.

Alright guys I'm having some kind of issue with my PS3. I played it earlier for like an hour playing The Show 08. I just turned it back on after being off for about 5 hours to play The Show again but it wouldnt load it. Just went to a black screen.

I ejected the disc, checked it and it's fine. Turned off the PS3 and tried to load it again, same thing. I let it sit at the black screen for like 3 minutes and it finally started loading the game.

What's the deal?

*edit* Just turned it on for the first time this morning and it's doing it again. Any idea what's going on? I never would've thought I'd have problems out of my PS3 before I would my 360.

I get that every once in awhile, even one time I couldn't eject the disc or turn off the PS3 from the power button so I had to cut the power from the button on the back. It happens to me maybe once a week but I figure it might be because I'm flicking around the menu when I put in the disc so it could be just a software freeze because it's trying to do too many things at once. Does it happen if you just turn it on and put in the disc without pressing anything else.

These console are computers now so you get the all the computer annoyances. Sometimes if i flick around the menu too quickly the PS3 will freeze up and have to be restarted.

do you have any other games? Do they load ok? My brother's PS3 quit loading games but everything else still worked (downloaded games, videos, etc).

Try disabling internet access. I believe it has something to do with Sportsconnect and The Show trying to access the internet on startup.

I'm having no issues, for the record.

I haven't tried another game but I will. How do I disable the internet and will it be disabled for all my games? Thanks for the help guys I really hope nothing is wrong with it. I'm gonna try another game now.

I would exchange the disc for a new one. I've read rumors of a bad batch of The Show discs.

ok i`m thinking about going out and getting a PS3 today. couple of questions

1. Does the 40g not play ps2 and ps1 games?
2. If it doesn`t can i find a 60g or 80g anywhere? Or is there any way to get the 40 go to play ps2 and ps1 games?
2. Are there are any good deals, like any places offering a free game or movies with the purchase of a ps3?
3. what would i need to get rosters?
4. Any accesories i should i pick up for it?

Nevermind about the network connection, that was a dumb question on my part. I wasn't thinking.

Anyways I disabled the net and that was the problem. I ejected The Show, inserted Uncharted and it loaded fine. Then I put The Show back in and it loaded back up fine. Thanks guys you were a great help!

Yeah, no problem man.

Not the most ideal solution but I know it has something to do with Sportsconnect.

1. No to PS2 and yes to PS1.
2. If you look around. 60gb are almost out but you should be able to find the 80gb somewhere.
3. So far only the Spider-man 3 deal. Although Target gives you a free copy of Madden or NBA 2K8 with the purchase of a 40gb.
4. Flash drive.
5. Blu ray remote control and Dual Shock 3 controller.
