As far as this, the bottom line until Sony comes out with all these features, they are way behind in online.

Agree 100%. I also think that people were skeptical about Xbox Live and some of the things they added when it came to the 360...I want to see and experience Home myself. If it's Second Life on PS3 I'll bash it appropriately at that point lol.

I'll tell you this, Sony's service will never be as online friendly as XBL. NEVER. MS has the huge advantage with Live integration and being able to access so much of your stuff online via their website.

Sony can't touch that. It would cost way too much.

I've had to deal with Live engineers and the framework to keep that in place is just amazing. Lots of $$$ put into it.

I don't know about that, I don't think costs are a problem. It is more of different visions. Look at it this way, Home must cost a lot more to develop and maintain than the service XBL provides. In XBL you have a main menu where you can view messages, friends, and achievements. Simple but good. Sony will have XMB plus a virtual world. Instead of delivering simple features everyone wanted they introduced Home. I still think they should have introduced their simple features first and showed Home later on.

If PSN had in-game XMB with messaging and in-game invites. The services would be really similar.

Im glad online service is not that serious to me. Its never enough to get that worked up over.

Live is nice but I just dont give a rats behind if its there or not. Home the same, but it is nice to have.

It's more than just that though. MS maintains the servers for all online games... right?

From what I've seen though MS has the advantage b/c of Windows Live integration. They have thousands of contracts where they house email and the like with XBL messages being handled in a similar fashion. Since everything is accessed via the web, plus the integration with MSN Messenger and your XBL friends list... Sony just can't compete. On top of Home they would need to add web integration to be on par with XBL with simple communication. Sure XBL and PSN will be similar from your console... but unless Sony has some sort of website access planned, MS will always have that slight advantage.

They both can take everything one step further. I don't see why you can't access the XBL Marketplace from Xbox.com and make purchases if you're signed into your connected .Net/Live account. And Sony should really look into some sort of simple site integration for chatting and messaging.

Huge potential for both platforms... but until Home hits and MS adds some new stuff, that's all we'll keep talking about, really: Potential.

Well the difference usually is that when you play games over Live it usually is P2P while with the PS3 you get a mixture of dedicated servers which equals better online play. This has been proven in games like Burnout and COD 4. Which is odd because once again with MS you're paying for the service but yet get P2P?

As far as their Live anywhere outlook and MS Massager, e-mail, etc, I agree. MS is the biggest software giant in the world and it would only make sense they have better software service.

However, it doesn't mean that Sony will never come close. They have been working with Linux a lot lately. Linux no where as big as MS but their software isn't worse, even better I think depending on what you're working with. If both work together, they can expand the PS3 software with more and better ideas.

Also look at the features that were announced a week ago with YouTube. That is excellent software integration.

The money has to come from somewhere. They're losing money on each PS3... they'd have to raise the % they get from each software title... someone is going to pay. That is, if they don't charge us.

The word Free lights up customer's eyes whenever they see it. I still think it shouldn't be free though, even $15 a year would be way cheaper than XBL and that $15 could have gone a long way. We would probably already have all the services we want for that money.

At this price they have a cheaper service that is actually a service. Now they have a free service which people are losing patience with and going to MS for their way better online service.

I just think it is fair to pay for online. Anything x millions of customers is better than 0 x millions of customers.

Also the fact that SCE was probably facing heat from Sony HQ didn't help either. One of the reasons it was a blu ray player first and is now finally turning into a video game console is the HD war is over.

It should be soon. PixelEden Junk has trophies support listed so they must be around the corner here in the summer. Once they release the SDK kits to developers, the games hitting in late summer/early fall should have them.

Maybe but they preached that Home will always be free talk a lot. They would take a lot of backlash for going back.

But like you mentioned, have silver/gold access in Home would work since they never mentioned everything will be free.

Im not one to post links from sites, so Im not sure if this site is credible or not ??

Anyways, this is the ONE thing I need on ps3, not HOME, not custom soundtracks, nothing.....

Once this is released the ps3 will finally be a proper online device.
