I've never heard of the site, but it doesn't matter. Even if IGN posted it, it wouldn't mean much. Unless it comes directly from Sony it isn't official.

The good news though is a lot of people are talking, including insiders so it could be true. Hopefully.

Im not one to post links from sites, so Im not sure if this site is credible or not ??

Anyways, this is the ONE thing I need on ps3, not HOME, not custom soundtracks, nothing.....

Once this is released the ps3 will finally be a proper online device.

Wow, all of the sudden even more sites are reporting this now:

Videogaming247 has it on good authority that the upcoming PS3 Firmware 2.4 will include in-game XMB and Trophy support.
We’re told that the added XMB feature allows users to play their own music in-game.
Programming tools to support the update have apparently now gone out to developers.
We’re unaware that a release date for the software has been set. Sony has already said that in-game XMB wil be added to PS3’s functionality this summer.
This is unconfirmed. Just remember where you heard it first.

Hopefully guys. With these rumors becoming more and more, it is going to get harder waiting for this 2.40 update to finally hit.

I wish Sony would come out and address this one way or the other.

Or maybe a game developer will leak some info that they have the latest firmware SDK.

I Just want to know one thing, If there's going to be so many people online with HOME, and gamers always say that the PSN network is weak, how is Sony going to handle all these user together at once with no issues, just asking. Also, Pared, you know we are cool and always have been, but you do tend to defend Sony lately like your working for them.....LOL..... J/k

It has nothing to do with being defensive about the PS3; It has everything to do with you *****ing on anything that doesn't interest you, like you did with MGS4. How about you take a step back for a second and look at the big picture, instead of making little comments like you always do about things that don't interest you. You're getting your in game XMB, invites and so forth. This is taking it one step further. Hell, there's so much potential for this. Sony can let other developers buy "space" and you can go and visit a companies "site" and meet up with other people who are interested in the same things you are. C'mon man, stop thinking in your little box; There's so much this can offer and if you continue to be close-minded you'll miss it.

Sorry, even if something doesn't interest me I can at least be objective enough to be impressed. And yes, I hate the Sims as well. Doesn't mean it's not damn impressive that you're getting this for FREE.

I am excited for Home and hope that this thing lives up to expectations because after 2+ years of mentioning this thing from Sony, I hope it does release in the Fall. I was so excited for it when it was to release this Spring, but then delay after delay hit which kind of sucks. I think for once this console generation, Sony has something up their sleeves with potential here and I hope they don't screw it up because it seems like a cool idea.

The word Free lights up customer's eyes whenever they see it. I still think it shouldn't be free though, even $15 a year would be way cheaper than XBL and that $15 could have gone a long way. We would probably already have all the services we want for that money.

At this price they have a cheaper service that is actually a service. Now they have a free service which people are losing patience with and going to MS for their way better online service.

I just think it is fair to pay for online. Anything x millions of customers is better than 0 x millions of customers.

Also the fact that SCE was probably facing heat from Sony HQ didn't help either. One of the reasons it was a blu ray player first and is now finally turning into a video game console is the HD war is over.

Remember we had that talk about a month ago that Sony should charge $20-$25 a year for the online service. It is half of what MS charges and it would allow them to get better and more powerful hardware to house online gaming. You make a good point, something is better than nothing in terms of customer base.

I can't believe I'm defending Sony, but we do have to remember that Xbox Live has had a lot of growing pains to get where it's at now (including the December Debacle last year). It's now pretty much a rock solid system, but it didn't start that way. I can only think that the servers and whatnot that Sony introduces for Home will help stabilize, and as developers get used to PS3 online they'll be able to handle the loads more.

Looks like we might know soon enough. Someone finally asked Sony about 2.40.

UK, May 30, 2008 - In-game messaging, trophies and a universal friends list could all be on the way to the PlayStation 3 if recent rumours are to be believed.

With version 2.40 of the consoles firmware expected in the very near future, speculation has been steadily mounting over what the feature list will comprise, and has been fuelled by the forthcoming PlayStation Network title PixelJunk Eden boasting trophy support. Gaming Age today claimed to have knowledge of the precise details of the update, and expects to see it pushed live at some point in June.

We approached Sony's UK office for comment on the story, and are awaiting confirmation of the details.
