Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...

Here's a problem I've been having off and on for the past few months, hopefully I'm not alone. Occasionally when playing, my PS3 controller will randomly shut off and when I hit the PS button, all 4 LED lights light up and blink but the controller never re-syncs. This happens with both dualshock and regular controllers.

The 4 lights will keep blinking even if I re-connect to the system via the usb cable. The only way to fix this is to shut the main power switch off on the back of the console and restart everything.

Very frustrating when it happens and I can't figure out how to re-sync the controller and system without shutting everything down. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try resetting the controller by pressing in the pinhole button on the bottom of the controller.

Tried that many times before, doesn't do anything either. Just stops the blinking lights, but when the PS button gets pressed again they still blink and can't re-sync.

Here is a interesting thing I learned this week. Last week while playing I had a power surge and the PS3 shut off. Earlier this week I tried update MK VS DC but it wouldn't update.

After doing some researching, if you hold the PS3 power button down while the PS3 is off you can access some hidden features. Hold it down and you will hear a beep, this is to reset the video. Continue to hold it and it will do two beeps in a row and once it does, let go. Now access the menu and from here you have several options. Pick restore files. What this does is check the HDD for any errors. Once it checks them it will tell you if anything is corrupted. If something is, (I had it), you can proceed to restore the files. All this does is restore broken bytes of data. Gamesaves, data, etc, are all left intact. I found this very useful as soon as I did this, I could download the update. The XMB was also quicker.

I knew about the double beep of resetting the video, but that new observation of yours is actually pretty neat. I'm gonna go check that out now.

Altimus, I figured that out a while back because I had to turn my PS3 off while it was loading something. I thought my Ps3 had died at first.

I have a 720p hdtv and would like to know if the super white option needs to be on or off?To me when it's on my screen has more of a milky washed out look especially with the black levels, when off it is more solid looking. Is this option only for tv's that can't produce solid white levels? Thanks.

                              Good times with UPS....

The box got delayed in the UPS system, and now won't be here until Monday. Great....I'm leaving for Christmas that day, and wouldn't be here to sign for it. I just told them to hold it until the 27th when I return. That means I won't likely get the PS3 sent off until around New Year's, and probably mid January (if all else goes smoothly) before I get another one back.

                              More time for Fallout.

That stinks. Were you planning on getting any PS3 games for Christmas?
