Sony announcing something on Tuesday March 31st?

Sony dropped Kotaku a line to let us know that something big was going down on Tuesday, March 31st. Could it be the long-rumored price cut is finally upon us?

Or could it be something completely different? Rumors have been doing little twirly things all over the internet over the past few weeks regarding a potential PlayStation 3 price cut, and while our first thought was "Why would they announce it several days after GDC?", apparently they are indeed announcing something several days after GDC. Go figure.

We're leaning towards a price cut, but we've got a sneaking suspicion that it's the PlayStation 2 dropping to $99, and not a cut for the PlayStation 3.

All we know so far is that they're announcing something. There's only one thing to do now. Let the wild speculation begin! What do you think/hope/dream Sony is announcing?

Why even bother acting like its some big deal if its a PS3 price cut?

More than anything they need to just do it because they're the one's suffering in sales not the consumer.

Well I just ordered a PS3 today so I'm sure it'll probably be the price cut. LOL.

I don't really see why they'd announce anything huge to Kotaku instead of at GDC or E3.

The thing I absolutely detest about this gen is this dumb trend to make announcements about announcements. They hype up the smallest stuff, the internet community starts freaking out (OMG EPIC WIN!!!111) and then the announcement disappoints.

The only real surprise of this gen has been the FFXIII announcement at E3 last year... which led to a very enjoyable internet meltdown.

Knowing Sony it could be a $89/$99 PS2 or $119/$129 price points.

Exactly. 2K has done this the most, and they're not even a hardware developer.

it could be, although I don't really see why they'd take a huge game or exclusive announcement off their E3 lineup. It could be for a new update with awesome features, where they make it available right after the announcement or something.

I think it will be what you just said. A firmware update with some major additions to it that will be out on Thursday.

Yeah,I heard something about how its gonna be a firmware update which adds a couple things including group chat.

KMart's system shows a drop in price for the PS2. Their source has given them reliable tips before.
