I am actually pretty upset about this.. Not because the Ps3 didn't drop in price "I bought one a week or so ago at 399.00". I still think that 399 is a fine deal. I feel bad for the people who paid 699 or so...But to me this isn't BIG NEWS...Big news would be a new exclusive, Or PS3 HOME update to make it compete with live, A cool new gadget for the ps3..but 99 dollars for the PS2!!! Gimmie a break. Sony just needs to tell it like it is.. They are trying to get rid of alot of the ps2 inventory and eventually stop making it...Maybe I'm overexaggerating but man...NOT GOOD...

it's not really. Although, it does allow them to show people that they are still supporting the ps2, which reaffirms their 10 year life cycle plan for the ps3. The ps2 is already cheap as hell used though. You can find people selling a ps2 with games and accessories for a little over $100 already. Any idiot can find a cheap ps2, I got mine off ebay for $40 years ago.

It's one thing for Sony to be financially unable to do a price drop, but what's sad is how Sony is showing how out of touch they are. There has to be someone working there that realized this would make people speculate or start rumors about the ps3. At some point, the constant rumors have to hurt sales.

Exactly BK!!!! That's fine if you won't to drop the price of the Ps3 but this is beyond crazy...They said a big announcement. Well If you can't drop the price ok, But how about creating a big announcement to make a person think spending 399 is worth it...There are alot of people that know that 399 is fine. But there are also alot of people think you buy a ps3,extra controller,and a game you are looking in a retail store what 520.00 for to play 1 game?? Then you want a blu ray..Add another 15-30+ dollars.. But if you can say yeah the console is 399 but LOOK what it does.. Show the public. Throw in maybe a game and a blu ray to get someone at least started. Frankly I don't see the Ps3 bundles really saving you much at all..

Strong post. I want a PS3, but I really hesitant now at the $399 price. If they were to throw in a game of your choice and maybe an accessory (controller, headset, whatever) or a blu ray of your choice, and it were to work out to something close to a $100 price drop, I pick one up.

I just heard this on the news about the PS2 price cut and the scaling back of games for the console. I'm sorry people but I did LOL when I heard the news. I was imagining a bunch of people waiting anxiously to hear them say PS3 only to hear PS2 and the look that must have went across a million faces. LMAO. Come on guys it's Sony. You know how they do. That PS3 isn't going to drop any time soon. The longer you wait the less time in life you'll have with your PS3.

I got into the PS3 when it fit my needs (Bluray movies that I wanted to view) and now I get to enjoy other things (MLB 09, MGS4, streaming vids et al.).

same here.. if I could choose a game instead of getting Resistance and MotorStorm (deal at Target) I'd jump on one.. I'd love to get the Show or Killzone2.. and finally have a BluRay..

i agree that they should bundle a blu-ray movie with a game and that would be a better deal.

but i also agree that they are not going to lower the price anytime soon. so if u want a ps3 go and get it.

I don't buy it, but if true, I'd be pissed that the console I just got three months ago for $399 is now offering BC for the same price. The price cut wouldn't really bother me as much because let's face it, these things happen (and Sony would be smart to drop the price). I would definitely be ticked that they are adding in more features for the same price, though.

For now, though, I'm going to chalk this up as an April Fool's, though, because I didn't see anything on the PS Blog.
