Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I've been on ebay too long though. Either they won't pay, or were too stupid to realize it's broken. I find it hard to believe that someone somewhere would actually pay $265 for a broken ps3.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
If it has BC, to them it might be worth trying to fix it or get it repaired. I sold my 60gb a few months ago and got $330 which also included shipping in that. I took the money and bought the slim.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
it doesn't have ps2 BC, it's just a broken 80 GB model.
The winner registered yesterday and has zero feedback. That combined with the absurd price means they most likely won't pay, and that I'll have to wait like 4 days before I can even open a no payment complaint. I should have gone with my gut and skipped ebay in the first place.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
The most common thing failing is the cheap thermal paste on the GPU and CPU drying up and thus the system overheats. I fixed mine by reflowing and adding some arctic silver, but eventually the mobo died on me. This was the old bulky models. I have a slim now, but i don't like how loud the BR getting (though it might be normal). Probably just paranoia from 4 360's and one PS3 dying.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Well, I talked to my brother in law that works on computers and I am going to take it to his house so we can resauder (is that a word) the GPU, CPU and motherboard with silver saudering since he said it was the best you can use. We are also going to look at modding the system to upgrade the fans in the back. I will post an update in a week or two.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
You can't resolder the GPU to the motherboard, you would have to reball it and that requires some pretty specific equipment to reball the BGA and properly align it for reattachment. You can reflow it using a heat gun, which may have been what he meant and may fix a YLOD or no video problem, but as far as resoldering anything else it's just likely to waste time. It would probably be a good idea to shim it first, reflowing can cause bridging if you aren't careful.Well, I talked to my brother in law that works on computers and I am going to take it to his house so we can resauder (is that a word) the GPU, CPU and motherboard with silver saudering since he said it was the best you can use. There is only one fan in a PS3 and it's a pretty specific fan type very uncommon in the PC world (it's a 40mm centrifugal fan instead of the axial fans used in a PC).Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Yeah, there's a pretty big sense of accomplishment after repairing the thing yourself. However, mine just died again after doing the same repair a couple weeks ago...so be prepared for a temporary fix.NOW PLAYING: Battlefield 3, MLB 12 The Show

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Went to many sites and what I found was the fix with just doing the washers was a "temp" fix. Most have said redoing the heat sink paste and "reseating" the board- has lasted. Either way it's working now and I'm happy.Joshua:
