Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread

Yup there's Youtube vids now too.

Of course with me it'd end up catching on fire anyway even not being plugged in. Kinda like that Simpsons episode where Homer pours the milk on the cereal and it's inexplicably on fire. Haven't checked the local guy in a while. Maybe they do it now so I won't need to buy a BR player.

I just went and bought another one. I'm going to fix this one when I get time and sell it. It sucks right now because I can't get anything off of it including my PSN name. When I logged on with my email and password it gave me my old system's name instead of my screen name. So my trophies, MW2 kills, 2k10 Association is gone, so sad so sad

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread

Mine was around 20 months old and it started losing sound on both my EA games then it would freeze 10 min in .
Regular dvds worked and everything else was fine so it may have been my BR ?
It all seemed to happen after firmware and game patches ? So who knows .
Well I actually had Sony fix it for FREE
But I did have to go thru 3 different reps and finally the manager agreed to do a goodwill repair .
The replacement works as good as my original and it looked brand New !

That's odd. I've put my PSN info into the 5 PS3's I've had and they all worked. The stuff I lost were game saves and such but all the PSN stuff like trophies, Call of Duty online stuff was linked to my ID and was recoverable.

My cuz's PS 3 died too. I sent it to JD Electronics to get the YLOD repair, & when i got it back the PS3 fired up worked great, but it didn't read any DISCS. so now i'm sending it back again to see what the hell they did for this to happen. when i sent my cuz's PS3 the 1st time, it read games, movies, music CDs etc...now nothing. they DID fix the YLOD for 74.99 + 15 shipping.

I think my HDMI port might be having an issue. I have tried different HDMI ports on my receiver and a different cable, every so often when I turn on the PS3 my image is a little fuzzy. I press the input button for the HDMI port and then it straightens itself out. Just very strange. I need to take a pic of this next time.

They say if your tech savvy then it's not too hard. They have tutorials all over you-tube. I just ended up sending mine in and bit the bullet.

You should look on Craig's list or local ads. There are local guys that advertise fixing 360s and PS3s. A guy around here promises to have the YLOD error fixed in 1-2 days max for a cost of C$80. That's much better than $150 to Sony and a 4-6 week wait. Plus a local guy will make sure your game saves stay on your hard drive.

My brother had a warranty repair from Sony and his hard drive got wiped clean. With his 360, MS always put his saves back on.

Not sure but my point was that you shouldn't have to remove your hard drive.

MS always tells you to remove the HD on the 360 to ensure that you get to keep your saves. Probably best to back up everything you can on a flash drive before you send your PS3 in.

I would think your stance should be the opposite. You shouldn't have to send your hard drive in. Microsoft specifically tells you to keep yours when you have to send your xbox in.

The PS3 will...I forget the exact word...I'll just say initialize the hard drive when it's put in a different system so even getting your own hard drive back the saves will be gone if it's not the same system.

Anyway I called trying to get a goodwill repair today. The first guy was helpful and put me through to a supervisor fairly quick. Supervisor tried to mess me around and I said "Are you denying that it exists?" he says "No,I just don't know who could authorize that" after more run around I tell him give him his supervisor and I'll ask him if he knows.

He said he could authorize one but wouldn't do it because it's for stuff that's like one month out warranty. I brought up all my previous broken systems and said isn't that worth anything? and he said he'd be able to authorize it had I sent them in instead of buying new ones because they'd have records of it and there were no records of having called to complain about the previous ones. He said it's just the out warranty thing and I could pay in cheque and I said I only deal in cash and would have to be an idiot to pay for it after having 2 PS1's and 4 PS2's break. (Yes I realize I was idiot to buy the PS3 in the first place.) I then asked if it shows all the games I had registered? and it didn't. I asked if it showed I filed a complaint with the BBB and got no response. He said it didn't show one and I said you're not gonna do anything? He said no and I said I'll take it up with them again then and hung up angerily.

Just filed the BBB complaint again.
MS may not speak english but at least they'll get **** done even if you have to yell at them.

I've recently found someone locally that fixes them but he said it'll only last 6 months and it'll need to be fixed again and then it'd last a year. Is it horribly wrong if this doesn't work to get it fixed through him and then sell it?
