Alright I got it to work. Since the Directv box was set to 1080i and the PS3 was set to 720p and 480p when I reset it it didn't work. So when I made the directv box go to 480p suddenly I could see the PS3. I thought that was weird, almost had an excuse to get a new TV.

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Well I finally bought FIFA 10 which I was so excited.
The bad news is it wont load up. It says registration of the trophy info could not be completed. The game will quit. (8001050F).
I googled this and other people have the same problem, but couldnt find any answers.
Can anyone help me please?Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Big problem.
I do some internet browsing from my PS3 (currently am doing so). I just check here, ESPN.com, YouTube, and one other message board. I stay away from any risky links.
But I think I may have gotten a virus here at OS on my PS3. Last night, I turned on the PS3 and the date and time were all changed. Then when I went to sign in to PSN, it said there was an error and I will be signed out. But I could still use the Internet Browser. But playing games online won't work, and my Friends List won't show either.
The worst part: MLB 09 won't load. The opening "Sony Computer Entertainment Presents" won't show... it just stays black. It looks like it's trying. The disc is 100% clean too, no scratches whatsoever. I tried NHL 2k10, it worked fine. Then at the end of a game, it froze.
So I'm thinking virus. Any ideas of how to get rid of this? Hopefully without losing all my saves, but if I must delete everything to have it work again, it's a sacrifice I'll have to make.
Thanks for any help!NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Thanks for any help!Official PlayStation Blog for news and video updates on PlayStation, PS5, PS4, PS VR, PlayStation Plus and more.
Calm down, it's not a virus (though it is a bug). Most everybody's old PS3's are having issues right now. All this started last night around midnight GMT.
And yes, the Show '09 not loading is a part of it as well - I can't play it either.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
Thank you so much bcruise! That eases my mind very much.
I'm hoping the NHL 2k10 freeze was just a random occurence. I've had games freeze every now and then and it's always been fine afterwards. Whew!
P.S. sorry for not reading first. I'm usually good at that, but I figured with all the combination of things going wrong, and seeing the embedded malware thread in Steve's Forum, I was sure it was a virus. Hopefully it's just on their end.Last edited by slickdtc; 03-01-2010, 02:44 PM.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
EECB sent to 15 Sony employees, much the same e-mail that was sent to the Tretton address. Was supposed to be 20 but 5 bounced. Hopefully this time there'll be a single decent person at Sony that actually gives a crap and will do something. They did something for the folks with broken laptops but these people might not even work for SCEA or Playstation.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I took it to someone different than originally planned (the guy that said it'd probably last 2 weeks). He had a look at it and since everything inside is in great shape (other than whatever broke) and it just needs a reflow it'll either last 30 days or last until the next systems come out. So whoever I pawn it off on probably won't have to put up with the same crap I did.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
My co-worker had an original 60 GB PS3 just die. Took it to a local repair guy (does work on all types of computers, video game consoles) and had it fixed for $80. Not only did he get a new heatsink (or whatever) but he also add a variable fan speed to the back of the PS3 and suggested he keep the fan at a higher speed all the time and leave the fan on after the system shuts down for 30 seconds to help blow out the heat. He suggested blowing the dust out of it every year too. He said that he's never had a fixed PS3 by him come back for breaking down again. That was some good news to me.Comment

Re: PS3 Repair and/or Death Thread
I got more than a 30 day guarantee because it was in such great shape. 3 months instead though as he said before it shouldn't be broken again if it lasts that long.
Ironically enough my first experience with it (after waiting 20-30 minutes for various updates) was getting a black screen/freeze up after the opening video with The Show.
Turned out it was just the disc being in less than good condition as it is of course a rental.Comment
