anyways gonna go return my PRO and go get a ARCADE and buy a 120 GB of meomry from ebay for 60 bucks and a hdmi for 10 bucks and still be better then the new ELITE price drop.

damn MS for making go through this to save $ and not look stupid. after the price drop.

Someone will correct me if Im wrong here but its not just an HDMI cable that comes with it, the Elite is the only one that has a built in HDMI port I believe. I dont have a 360 and havent had one for awhile, back when I had the Halo edition 360, but Im fairly sure the Elite is the only system that has the built in HDMI port.

and both the ps3 and 360 don't include the HDMI cables in with the console. MS is apparently taking it out of the new Elite package.

Why No Xbox 360 Price Cut?

Despite a persistent rumor that the Elite model of the Xbox 360 would be slashed to $299, MCV reports that the delayed price drop can be attributed to the number of existing Xbox 360 consoles currently in retail. Only once some of these consoles have been sold and the supply drops will Microsoft make its play to reduce the price and potentially roll out a new model that could replace the Pro model, which is being phased out.

The PS3 Slim and price cut are certainly designed to goose sales of the platform, which consistently chart below the Xbox 360 and Wii. Perhaps Microsoft will take a wait-and-see approach here and determine if the new PS3 model and price jumpstart sales. If Sony moves up, Microsoft could feel forced to quickly retaliate with its own cut and/or new Xbox 360 model.

There won't be a new model until Natal, so they can forget that.

What's interesting, is the new Arcade model boxes show only two available models of 360s on the side... The Arcade and the Elite.

And there are no Elites I can find in retail anymore. Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop all seem to be out of stock (at least of Jasper Elites).

'Cause I'm looking to buy an Elite, price drop or no.

You can get a 6ft. HDMI cable for like $4 on Amazon.

I don't think you can buy the cheapest NEW Arcade, NEW authentic 120gb HD and even with a $4 cord and come out under $300 at any combination of sites.

probably not, but who says you have to buy brand new? You can find used 360's cheap on craigslist or ebay, I found an Arcade for $140 in December. Then there's the $60 120 GB HDD's off ebay, and that's $200 total.

I imagine the used ps3 market will be this cheap real soon too.

So I'm confused - is the price on the Elite with the 120 GB HD and HDMI cable dropping to $299 on August 30th or not? My launch 360 (yes, that's right - launch 360) just red-ringed last night and it's obviously not under any warranty.

I definitely want to replace it with another 360 since I have a bunch of 360 games, but I'm not sure what I should do. Just get an arcade for $179 off of Amazon and attach my old HD to it, or get an Elite. Obviously if the Elite is dropping down to $299 that might sway me in that direction. Can anyone clarify the situation for me?

Nope. No one can.

Except Microsoft, and they aren't talking.

There have been scans of flyers and some other strong indications that the Pro is disappearing, and the Elite will drop to $299. It is expected to hit soon. But nothing is confirmed or announced as of yet.
