Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

With that being said, i really do get tired of feeling guilty for over-extending myself. I have even though of coming up with a schedule and penciling in different games at certain times but then that sounds like i'm slipping into the crawlspace of outright insanity.

I was doing well, only buying what I had time for, until the Best Buy and amazon sales hit at the same time as a flood of great new releases - the perfect storm.
Ended up with Flashpoint, Borderlands, NBA 2K10, Forza3, Fable2 and MW2 within a few weeks!

NBA and Fable I put aside for my birthday next month. Hopefully have Borderlands story done by then. MW2 is first for online play, can catch up to the campaign later. Then mixing in Madden (online franchise) NHL 10 (OTP) and Forza3.

No more game buying for me until ME2.

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

I typically play whatever I feel like, just because if I'm going to play a game I want it to be something I enjoy.

This fall has put a bit of a cramp on that though. Madden, FIFA, Forza 3, Halo ODST, Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 2 and the New Super Mario Bros. Wii have all been purchased and simply put I don't have enough time for all of them. I love ODST especially the firefight mode but have barely touched it since Forza 3 and Borderlands came out. Now that L4D2 is out, I might touch anything else for a month.

There are times when I recognized I'm playing too much of one game and I'll force myself to switch to another game so I don't overdue it. Last fall after L4D came out I pretty much quit playing Gears of War 2. I realized I was spending way too much time with L4D and I wanted to keep it fresh so one night I forced myself to play GoW2. I wasn't completely thrilled at first but by the end of the night I was completely back into GoW2. I know forcing myself to play a different game may sound corny but once a game becomes stale to me it's hard to get the flavor back.

I think the only game I'll never get sick of is Team Fortress 2.

Dunno what there's to be guilty about. Devs/publishers still get their money and more money than they'd get if you waited until you were finished with the last game.

I can add in 9 unfinished more actually. Still have some left over PS3 games that just weren't worth trading in.

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

I'm in this "too many new games" situation.

            Within 2 weeks i've bought:
            NBA 2k10
            Resistance 2
            Ghostbusters: The Video Game
            CoD: MW2

I've just been playing whatever I feel like playing. That's resulted in me beating Ghostbusters in like 5 hours of total playtime, playing a bunch of 2k10, and Resistance and MW2 are rotting. I played MW2 a bunch the day I got it and a little the day after, but the Ghostbusters box kept staring at me and taunting me with Bill Murray, so I had to go back. I like that game a lot more than most people liked it, I think.

I have the same problem. But it's a good problem to have I guess. It didn't used to be like this. Back in the day usually, except for sports games, the great must buy games only came out during the holiday season. Or at least they did a good job of spreading them out. Now it seems that there are a least two great games that come out per month. Sometimes three. It can overwhelm you. I also think the age of internet changed things. These games are hyped so much on messageboards that a game that might have gone unnoticed, is now a must buy. Just my .02 cents.

goh - the guilt has nothing to do with the devs or them getting paid, it's about spending money on products that you aren't maximizing fully. And also the guilt in the fact that you just KNOW you are missing out on some great experiences.

do you ever go back at some point and try to get some time in or do they just get sold or passed on to someone else?

I kinda have a packrat mentality when it comes to games, because of the "what if" clause when it comes to wanting to play them. The only time I've done a mass trade in was when Xbox 360 came out and I traded in some 60+ xbox games.

Yeah i do too, I have a nephew now who has an xbox 360 though so he gets my old games, like he'll get Left for Dead when I finally pick up Left for Dead 2. It's a lot better than trading it into Gamestop for $6. LOL.

If its a newer or in demand game I'm not playing I will sell it off. Even if I think I might want to get back to it, I can always rebuy it later for less.
Like Oblivion, I played the heck out of it and sold it for $40. Then I bought Oblivion-GOTY for $20 a few months back. And Forza 2 I traded for $30, rebought for $5.

I myself are in the very same boat, I have about 17 games right now, and Have had little time to play anything, and I got into a buying mode the last month. Every time I put in a game, I say HMMM I don;t wanna play this and let me put this one in, and then I take that one out for another. I'm going ingamesane...
