Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

HAHA, well in my defense my nephew was with me and was wanting me to get a new game and I was like, hey i heard this one's pretty cool and next thing i know i'm walking out of best buy in a bit of a daze and mumbling under my breath 'what did i do...what did i do...what did i do..."

we had some good fun with it over the weekend though so at least it didn't sit on the coffee table unopened..

That is my weakness too, bargains. If I see something like $20 off and I know it's gotten decent reviews and word of mouth I instantly want to buy it.

          Same thing with me dogg

I am going to try and stick to my guns this year. Only titles I wanna buy are NON-Sport games. NHL10, Madden 10, NBA Live 10, APF, and Fifa 09 are all fine for me for a year or more. They are good enough representations of the sport for me to enjoy.

ONLY 3 games on my radar right now are.
          • Backbreaker - We all know if they succeed and the tackling and everything works as advertise it will be a quantum leap for football games. Hell sport game across the board.
          • Brink - Looks to be a very cool art direction with some big tech leaps
          • Splinter Cell Conviction - Huge SC fan!!!

The only game I see on the horizon in January is Darksiders. That game looks killer. Then Modnation racers in February (Blur looks cool but I will probably rent that one first) and God of War 3 in March. So it should be pretty much 1 a month for a while. That should give me some time to catch up.

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

like i mentioned earlier, i was in the opposite boat. no games hardly to play at all.
But, with black friday, gamestops b2g1f and best buys deals i ended up gathering some good stuff to tide me over.

for b2g1f i got LBP game of the year, nba 2k10 & smackdown 2010.

acII on amazon with coupon and 10 dollar off another game, which turned into Fight Night 4 for 19 bucks.

NHL 2k10 for 20 at best buy.

add that to my already owned GTA IV and i am set til the show 10

ahhh Odogg, you used the old, 'hey this looks good cuz, lets try this game'.
              then you play it mostly.
              LOL
just kidding, i understand how it works

this is how we gamers live.

              women do it with clothes
              we do it with games.

                Phobia,
I'm with you on the sports games; I really don't see myself buying any new sports games in 2010. I'd be perfectly fine with Madden, NHL and NBA to carry me into 2011.

Oh yea, Not sure about the main server. But you can always play against buddies online.

I played a game of NCAA 08 just couple months ago against my cousin cause that is the last football game he bought.

Yeah, as far as sports games for 2010, I only envision getting one next year and that's NCAA Football '10. Every year it's an instant purchase barring some catastrophic glitch. I don't see myself getting Madden again (I like it and will keep it, just a bigger NCAA fan) and I have zero faith in MLB 2K10. Looks like NCAA Football 2011, Madden 2010, NCAA Basketball 2010, and MVP Baseball 2005 will be good enough for me next year.

I have added Red Dead to the list I'm getting next year so it's now been bumped up to 5 games next year: Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, Red Dead Redemption, NCAA 2011, and Halo: Reach. Hopefully, that's it.

I only buy sports games really, been that way since the end of HS so about a decade. At this point in my life I don't have time for anything besides sports games really and they are so in-depth nowadays (CH2K8) that they can keep me entertained for a long time so I'm good.

I've been a next-gen console owner for a little over three years and the only non-sports game I've bought for PS3/360 is GTA IV because of the NYC element.

Every now and then I consider picking up a cheap 2-3 year old used game that's an RPG or FPS or something but every FPS I've played seems so insanely complicated compared to my heyday of Doom, Wolfenstein, etc.

I'm tired of feeling guilty about playing title X when I 'should be' playign title Y and sometimes it just makes me decide to just watch a movie instead of trying to decide which game gets my attention.
The way I do it is, I just to don't buy games I wont play/enjoy. Though it's taking a while for me to get to that point. A few years ago I would get just about every game that came out, play it for a brief while, and then the next game would come out, my enjoyment was minimal.

Eventually it just got too expensive to continue to do so, and I slow down my purchases. This year, I've only gotten The Show, Madden, Batman Fifa, UFC, NCAA Football and MW2, which would be my last game I buy till maybe The Show 10, but more than likely when NCAA 11 comes out.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.
