This is funny but so true. I am not some dorky video game nerd and the people I hang out with are not either. But video games have this stigma about it that is what video gamers are.

Just about everyone I know plays video games also. Hell my dad is in his 50s and still plays 360 almost nightly. He is either on Fight Night rd4 or we been playing some madden or APF against one another over LIVE.

I think video games are to that point where it is more entertaining to go play through a big budget action game than it is to sit there and "watch" a big budget action movie.

I buy 3-4 a year and I try to get them from Wal-Mart instead of walking into a GameStop or some store like that.

I buy non-sports titles maybe once every two years.

I don't know I just don't like going into places like a GameStop.

Just saying how I feel about things!
Interesting, I personally wouldn't care what others think since you are having fun and not causing troubles with your hobby.

I do too stew. Especially when some milf is in there with their kid asking them what game do they want.

I fully realize that most video games are for adults though.

There is a few things I don't understand here.

If she has a kid she is most likely married so what does it matter what she thinks?? If she is single and hot and in your age with her kid and you wanna holla at her, what is stopping you???

I just don't understand why having a hot girl in there would sway you?? Either you holla at her and you hook up or you leave her alone. both about about your day and the place you saw one another means nothing.

Of all the things to have shame in the world today one would think that buying video games would be pretty low on the list!

While not feeling ashamed about video games i can relate. I get pretty embarassed anytime i go and buy a wrestling dvd. I even try to only go to the wal mart that has the self check out so i don't have to deal with the cashier. I should care less what people think about it and i could care less about others opinions in almost every aspect of my life but there's just something about the wrestling dvd's that embarass me. It's probably the fact that 90% of wrestling fans are total jackassess and i don't want to be lumped into that.

Re: Guilt, gaming and the "too many games" syndrome

I can see Stew's point as well. Despite the fact the average age of gamer's is in their early 30's there is still a nerd stigma attached to it. I know personally when i'm home alone and my in-laws arrive i quickly turn off the ps3. I guess it's because the older generation (my father in law is a "hard as nails" builder) see videogames as something only children do and most "normal" people will/should grow out of it.

With that being said just about everyone my age and younger plays videogames alot so they stigma is slowly being removed i think. Videogames still have that "nerd in his mother's basement" stigma. Just look at the article about Andy Murray being dumped by his girlfriend for playing too many videogames:
Most guys who play seven hours of video games per day don't even know what a real woman looks like*, let alone dates one as gorgeous as Kim Sears.

I get kind of a weird feeling walking into a store to buy a videogame even though all I buy is sports games. There is definitely the nerd element to it as everyone else has stated. I consider myself a very secure person but for some reason I just get a weird feeling when going to buy a video game - not that it's every stopped me from buying one. But I might have a different opinion if I bought nerdy non-sports games.

For those of you who say you feel kind of embarrassed at times about this i'm curious as to what your ages are? I went through a spell like this in my 20's but I've not thought twice about it since entering my 30's.

I can't imagine how embarrassed you guys might be to buy a game like Viva Pinata, Little BigPlanet or Modnation racers, LOL. Now that I mention it I think I was a little embarrassed to buy Viva Pinata but that was more game specific because it's not a "guy game" than it was because it was a game in general.

I'm 21 but I'm never embarrased buying games, maybe it's cause I don't look like a "nerd" at all. Most people are surprised if I know anything about games, it's hilarious when I go in gamestop or another video/game store and people try to act like I don't know anything about games.

I had a buddy of mine once tell me that video games are 'dorky'. I just nodded to him as i looked past him at all the Yoda action figures hanging on his spare bedroom wall, and the giant ****ing lego star destroyer sitting on top of his entertainment center.

I don't understand being embarrassed about buying a video game. Video games are as big a part of our society nowadays as movies.

Now being embarrassed to buy porn, I can understand.

People that have that issue must have people in their lives that subscribe to the fact that video games are for kids is pretty much the case. Whether it's conscious or subconsciously they then feel guilty or feel foolish when they purchase or look at games because of it.

Well, I think I figured out how to cure my "too many games" syndrome:

I just got laid-off today, so I won't be buying any games for a while.
