There is a way around it if your persistent enough as my 20 month old ps3 croaked last month .
I had to go thru 3 horrible reps reading from a warranty manual then he will mumble lowly its will be $150 plus shipping then ask for a higher up and youll eventually get a manager you can reason with and I told him how I only bought Sony ect and whys everyone have these ps3 issues .
Well the bottom line is we use our TV and CPU twice as much and they dont break under 2 years and whether its $1 or $180 you gotta make them accountable as it seems most ps3 die under 2 years .
Think of it this way do you Know how much money Sony is making off of this $175 BS when they already got your $400 to $600 .
My refurb works as well as my original so far plus a 90 warranty .
DM You had to pay (OR would have had to pay LOL) shipping? I didn't have to in CA. It was 149.00 +tx. About 160.00 I guess, no shipping. That included the coffin and the shipping of all items. I wonder if it's location specific?

      NO !
Mine was shipped to and came from TX but my original total price quote was $177 , cant remember but I think he said $150 plus shipping price varies with location $177 .

That's a complete ripoff. I guess this is SONY's way of making their money back from the cheaper prices on the ps3.

Blzer, you can open your PS3 up pretty easily and get it out yourself. Here's a video on youtube that shows you how to change a laser if it goes bad but the steps will show you how to get the disc drive open. I've done it before and it's really not that hard. Plus, it doesn't cost a thing.

Nope, I called my mom the day after and she said, "Just wait to talk to your father." I figure I'll just wait until I go home later tonight for the break anyway, because I didn't want it to be shipped somewhere when I wasn't there to claim it. My mom also suggested that maybe I try and take advantage of a Black Friday deal, but that would mean I'd have to get a slim (I think), which I really don't want because I want to install Linux on my PS3.

But if in the event that I get a new PS3, I'll still try and fix my old one as suggested above and then I'll have two. That way my parents may finally buy into having one around the house for Blu-rays and such. I mean it only does everything.

Needless to say, I have watched The Uninvited five times since discovering the disc was stuck in there, and I have bought and played through TMNT Re-Shelled four times.

Re: PS3 disc drive won't eject!

For those that are unaware of my actual issue, this is it:

                    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7laVpXX4AeA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7laVpXX4AeA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Only difference is that I have a disc in the drive, not out of it. So what will happen is I'll press the eject button, that sound will go on for about four seconds, and then it will stop. The blue light that indicates there is a disc in the drive will go off, and stay off until I decide to restart the system. When I restart it, the disc is again recognized and I am back to square one.

I fixed a PS3 one time with that issue. One of the mechanical "plastic" arms or whatever it's called on the disc drive is jammed in a certain position and you just have to move it back into place.

Here's a video of how to fix the problem: I believe this is the problem you are having Blzer.

Okay, guess I'll check that out when I get back into town.

Does anyone know if opening up the PS3 voids my... ability to get it repaired even for the paid price?

It does void your warranty, but if you pay to have it fixed it won't matter. I basically did the same thing. Opened it up, couldn't figure it out, sent it in.

I did the same when I was waiting on my last refurb. Gotta say it took over the living room spot and gets more play time then the fatty, which is now in the bedroom.
