Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
I've been reading everybody's impressions of the Vita so far, and I wanted to try it out for myself.
I haven't even thought of getting one, mainly because of my experiences in the past with the PSP. I got a PSP on launch day, used and loved it for maybe 6 months or so, and then it collected dust until I sold it to a friend. (This was in high school) Then a year or two ago I bought a used one for like $60, used it for like 2 months and ended up selling it again. (Sold it for double that, though, which was good.)
My friend, who had been at gamestop and tried the vita, and I went to gamestop last night so I could test it out.
I was surprised by how light the system was, and the screen is really, really nice.
I tried FIFA first, and I was really disappointed. It looked great, but during gameplay everything just looked so small and hard to see, I mean the players are TINY and I could barely see the ball. Plus, it doesn't have any of the benefits of FIFA 12, Impact Engine, etc., so it felt crappy because it was basically FIFA 10 with 12 rosters.
Also, I turned the rear touchpad controls off instantly. I was in the arena for less than a minute and I took 3 unwanted shots because my fingers made contact with the touchpad as I was simply trying to run towards the goal.
Then I tried Uncharted. It looked fantastic. But the touch screen control implementation ruined the game for me. I know you don't have to use it, but having to stop and do the swipe gestures while Drake waits for you to finish so he can cut the curtain away made the game really disjointed.
I also felt that the buttons were WAY too small. Face buttons and especially the Start/Pause buttons. In addition, the Shoulder buttons just feel crappy; they're like loose/feel like they are cheap.
Analog sticks are awful too. I actually think the analog nub of the PSP is better. They're very touchy/sensitive, the range of motion is small, and they're just tiny in general.
Overall I went expecting a great device, better than the PSP, from what I've read on here and seen on other sites.
What I experienced was a device that certainly is more powerful, with a better screen and graphics.
But overall I don't see what all the hype is about. The games are closer to console quality, but still feel like they're missing things, especially in FIFA because it literally doesn't have the same features. The buttons overall are just not good. And the touchscreen controls work, but feel tacked on and unnecessary.Comment

Takes more than a few minutes in the store. I can't recall seeing a single negative impression from anyone in this thread.
I finished Uncharted last night and it is as amazing as its console brethren. The touch screen controls really don't come into play as much until melee. I can't stand to use them in melee but it didn't take anything away from my experience.
You just don't sound like a handheld person with the buying and selling. This is my first handheld and I love it more than gaming on my smartphone. There is no comparison.

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
In other news, I posted about my trigger grips roughly three hours after I had purchased them. I tested them on a couple of games, the ModNation Racers demo being the last of them. I had finished a race and put the game on standby because I was about to drive home.
Anyway, I completely forgot about shutting off my game/Vita during that period, and just woke it up five minutes ago, realizing that I was still at the end of my past race. In about 15 hours, I doubt the battery even dropped 15%.

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
To all the replies, even with more time I still wouldn't feel more inclined to buy or own one.
I understand that the controls/button size etc. are limited in a way because it's a portable system. I guess that's one reason why I'm not a huge fan of portable systems.
I look at it this way. If could choose between the Vita and PS3 as my main gaming experience, I'd obviously pick the PS3, as many would. But I don't see the point of having the Vita as a secondary experience, even with remote play, cross platform gaming, etc. If I want to game, I want a full experience, a la a PS3/360 experience, not half or 75% of that. For me, portable gaming just isn't my thing I guess.
I just wanted my impressions to give people another side of the story I guess.
I hope everyone continues to enjoy their Vita.Last edited by sars973; 03-04-2012, 02:35 PM.Comment

Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion
Does Fifa on Vita support Remote Play? I'd love to be able to continue my Manager Mode on the go. I've been playing the demo of Fifa on the Vita, and it's identical to the PS3 version IMO (other than the occasional booted ball via the touchpad).Cleveland Cavaliers
New England Patriots
Chicago Blackhawks
Washington Nationals
Chelsea FC

I've never been much of a handheld gamer, but that was basically because were never that impressive, or at least on a comparable level to a console experience. Right now, I'd say this is the closest that you can/will get for the next long while. Playing my franchise for The Show was the biggest pushover for me, and got me to cave in and buy it now. I'm having a lot of fun with it, but I can't wait till Tuesday.
As for other uses, I'm watching the Knicks and Celtics right now, and am using the Vita to play Super Stardust Delta meanwhile.
