As I only learned a few days ago, if you are nearby your PS4 you don't technically use the Internet at all.

I have tried using Remote Play over the Internet only (at my friend's house), and it is too laggy to play normal games. I could still play something like Pure Pool, but even then it would only be out of necessity for playing and nothing more. Otherwise, it works just fine for, say, watching MLB.tv via RP over the Internet at a friend's house. That worked just fine.

There are a series of posts in the PlayStation 4 Discussion thread pertaining to RP, kind of starting from this post, then several posts later it continues (find where I list some of the games on when RP functions best). I do intend on making a video very soon for those concerned, but I'm sure you can find them on YouTube right now. I just don't trust YT people some times with their honesty versus their excitement, though.

Thank you for the quick response! Crap, RP sounds like it will not work well for really the only thing I want it for (99% of my gaming is sports). Interesting about not needing the internet - my PS4 will be in my basement (where I also have my router). I will mostly be playing one floor above in the family room (while my wife watches something hideously bad on TV) - I wonder if that will be too far to avoid the internet and the lag?

        Re: Sony PSVITA Discussion

My PS4 and router are up in my bedroom and I play downstairs directly below my room often, which is still only about 12-15 feet from the PS4 if you think about it (though there is a ceiling-floor combo between the Vita and PS4, of course. Works like a charm there.

I have yet to try NBA 2K or Madden, as I don't own the games. I don't own MLB 14: The Show, but with SharePlay it was very much unplayable (not sure if the lag is different there). Super Mega Baseball is certainly playable with RP, but not as efficient as with the PS4 and your regular TV itself of course. No real hassle except for the R2 button layout.

EDIT: Keep in mind the biggest problem with NHL 15 was not the input lag (though that's still an issue with a game that has so much redirection, but it doesn't seem to be an issue for me with COD), but it was the way the R2/L2/R3/L3 controls were mapped. I must have spoken about that in other posts, but with R2 (the passing button) being on the top-right of the rear touchpad, I miss it often. They really had to make it like other games make it, fully on the right side of the rear touchpad instead of just a corner. Maybe the retail version is like that though, and maybe just demos don't have it. As I said before, the only games that really seem to suffer from those controls are demos, because most all retail games don't have this problem (except Super Mega Baseball).

I'll try and play the NHL 15 demo again right now and report back.

Thanks, Blzer! One other thought - if I had my PS4 hooked in the family room to the TV my wife is watching, can the PS4 do RP while she is watching a show on the TV?

Absolutely, that's the point of RP for me. Then again, I realized other people use it simply as a controller.

I used my RP for PS3 for a party when my Vita was in my pocket and I controlled which songs to change out of my home theater room, because that's what it was blasting from. Nifty little device there.

And oh yeah, I still haven't opened Tearaway from last year, so the Vita still have games I have "yet to play." Technically it has a ton, since I never really played Uncharted: Golden Abyss either. Never touched P4G, but RPG's ain't my thing.

I appreciate the consult, Blzer! I made the jump. The deal at Best Buy for $349.99 with the 10% off mover's coupon on top made it too good to pass up. Heck, even if I can do offseason stuff - scouting, drafting, trading, roster moves, etc., it would be something fun to play with while the wife is watching TV.

Yes, this has been very helpful info. I plan on using remote play, too. I also jumped on the BB deal; the $50 off plus a free game download (I'll be getting 2K15) was too good to pass up.

I'll report back once I get my console (had to order online as my local stores were sold out, but I'll have it by Tuesday). Looking forward to trying it out.

Well, I've tried to access Remote Play a handful of times now in my house and I keep getting a message saying that my connection isn't stable. I'm in the same room as the PS4 and the wireless router is located upstairs. The signal strength is always over 95% so I don't believe that to be the issue and I have good speeds (15mg).

Any clues as to why I can't get Remote Play to work?

Just look some stuff up online. I couldn't getv my WiFi to work til yesterday after not using it for awhile and a reddit post helped me fix it.

I basically went into my router setting on the pic and added the Vitas MAC address to the list and voila I was paying sniper elite 3 on it last night no problem

I'll have to do some digging because I have no clue what my router ID/Password are. It's likely time to get a new one, anyway.

My PS4 is on the second floor and my living room is directly underneath it on the first. I get a good, smooth connection for the most part when playing Destiny. I am actually hooked up through my PS4's wifi and not my own wifi.

I've used it to play The Show and the timing can be a little off. Destiny is perfect though with the newest PS4 update, there has been some audio issues (gun firing sound while the enemy is dying). No real issues with lag.

usually, its the exact same IP for most and the log in is usually user user

                            Try the IP 192.168.0.1

If that doesn't get you in (although it most likely will) just put the name of your router in the search engine and add log in and it usually pops right up.

Stupid question, but have you actually registered your Vita to your PS4 already? I remember that I didn't do that the first time and it didn't connect.

Also, try plugging in your Vita directly to your PS4 and see if you get the same error. If you remember what I was saying before, I don't think a wireless connection has anything to do with Remote Play in the house, it's all about proximity to the PS4. At least that's what others said.

                                DJ what's your error code?

It literally just took me 2 days to figure out why my vita didn't connect to my ps4 because the ps3 was there and WiFi wouldn't connect.

That was the easiest way to get them on together then I had to do the code from ps4 to the vita and bam... I'm on.
