      Re: PSVITA Handheld Information

      Some reviews on US software:

      Vita Review = 8.5

Despite the challenges of the price, there’s plenty of potential in the platform. The system has the capacity to allow players to start a game on their PS3 and finish it on the go or pair with console to use the PS Vita as an auxiliary display. Hackers have even allegedly been able to access and play games like Battlefield 3 using Remote Play. If Sony can build upon the PS Vita’s cross-platform functionality with the PS3, the value offering would be incredible.

As much as I would love to judge the PS Vita for what it could be, I have to critique it for what it is. Right now, the PS Vita is an amazing piece of hardware with an impressive launch lineup and software that hints toward a bright future, but until Sony addresses concerns about the price, it is destined to appeal to only a niche audience.

      Uncharted: Golden Abyss = 8.5

Historically, this franchise's greatest strengths are characters and storytelling; gameplay takes a backseat. This outing -- the first Uncharted from Sony's Bend Studio -- flips that. The core gameplay is still the same climbing, shimmying and third-person gunplay, but the developers toss in a bunch of additions that make Drake feel more like an adventurer than ever before.

You know that journal Nate's always opening and using to solve puzzles? We get to assemble that in Uncharted: Golden Abyss. This game is littered with collectables -- there are treasures to find, photos to take and charcoal rubbings to make -- and they all get added into Drake's journal to tell the full story.

This could all play out with Drake just walking to shiny objects and us pressing a button, but gathering all these goodies actually uses the PlayStation Vita's unique features. You'll rub the touch screen to clean dirt off objects, drag and spin pieces of paper to reassemble a torn map, and use the rear touchpad to zoom in and out with the camera and nab the shot Nate needs.

I'm pretty anti-motion controls and usually against goofy gimmicks, but I loved doing this stuff in Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Not knowing what I'd use the Vita for next excited me. Even cutscenes have treasures hidden on desks and cabinets, so I had to be ready to tap and collect.

I don't mean to sound like I'm being hypercritical of Uncharted: Golden Abyss. The game is great and an impressive launch title for the PlayStation Vita. It's just that the Uncharted series has been known for being a story-driven experience, and Golden Abyss goes in another direction. It's a beautiful, fun game with tons of collectibles, plenty of laughs, and some cool twists on a franchise PlayStation fans know so well. It's just not an instant classic like the other entries in the series. Still, not too shabby for Sony Bend's first crack at the Uncharted legacy.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip = 7.0

I love the racing here and I love the variety and detail of each track, but when we look back at ModNation Racers: Road Trip, I think it's going to be clear we were dealing with a launch title. The menus bury the coolest stuff, the touch controls are peculiarly particular, and even though the Vita is a connected device, I feel alone when I play this. If you're looking for a bright and colorful kart racer with good mechanics, ModNation Racers: Road Trip fits the bill, but it doesn't excel anywhere else.
      WipeOut 2048 = 7.0

While this review may seem quite critical, I have genuinely enjoyed my time with Wipeout 2048. It’s good, chaotic fun and has a baseline level of quality and polish that’s pleasing to see. If this is your first Wipeout game, chances are you’ll have a blast. For veterans, however – especially those schooled in the delights of HD and Fury – this game just isn’t as smooth in feel or as elegant in design. In short, while Wipeout 2048 is well worth checking out, just be aware that for every design hit there’s also a miss.
      UMVC 3 = 8.0

      Closing Comments
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a fast-paced, well playing fighter that makes few concessions on the Vita. While the game's modes are pretty sparse and the new touch mode is a dud, there's still a lot to be excited about if you're a fighting fan with a brand new Vita.

I jumped ship to the First Edition at pretty much the last second, so I'd assume Wednesday. Might end up being Thursday since I preordered so late - I dunno.
