Web browser sounds good, some of the online stuff doesnt really interest me at all. I guess in a way you could get an ipod or this but I still think theyre a bit on the expensive side

They have all the "app" makers on board as well, and will be offering a similar functionality as Apple and Droid with their PlayStation Suite...

They are also offering their suite to Android, which will be PlayStation One game functionality and new games made for it for the Android market.

Sony just dropped a bomb on the Japanese stage -- not a single PlayStation Phone, but a PlayStation Phone experience for everybody. The company unveiled a cross-platform software framework called PlayStation Suite, which sounds rather boring in those words, but what it amounts to is an official PlayStation Store filled with games for your Android tablets and cellphones. Sound familiar? Sony's starting with an emulator for existing PSOne titles and is promising an Android game store later this year, but soon it might be much, much more: the company's calling PlayStation Suite a "hardware-neutral" development framework to make games portable for all sorts of handhelds, and says that "new and exciting content" is also on the way. Sony will sponsor a first-party licensing and quality-assurance scheme called PlayStation Certified, and provide the marketplace as well, likely hoping to attract major game developers to build top-tier titles for mobile and get a piece of the action too. If your device doesn't have a pop-out gamepad handy, it looks like PlayStation Suite will emulate touchscreen controls, and you won't necessarily need a phone to get in on the action, as Sony says the next-generation PlayStation Portable will be compatible with games developed for PlayStation Suite right off the bat. Doesn't look like we're getting any details on game prices or compatible devices, but we imagine one particular phone will change all that at Mobile World Congress next month. Update: Looks like PlayStation Suite requires Android 2.3 at a minimum, and it's PSOne, not PlayStation Portable titles that will be emulated here, despite Kaz Hirai's quote during the festivities. Plus the integration they are offering between the PS3 and this, where you can essentially take you PS3 game on the go, play it, then re-sync it to the PS3 and continue on ... great stuff they wanted to do with the original PSP, but the tech was just not there yet. But now it is.

This thing seemingly will offer fantastic functionality as it is, even more so if you already own a PS3.

I thought that part was something that Kojima said he wanted to figure out if he could do.. I dont remember hearing them say you can do that as soon as this thing is released

People... One developer ported a PS3 game to NGP in a WEEK. The thing is a handheld PS3 with all the touch goodness of an iOS device. Every developer out there is going gaga for it and is raving about how easy it is to develop for. This device will change how play portable games forever. Imagine playing a single player game like Dead Space 2 on the bus, then coming home and transferring your save to your PS3 and finishing off where you left off. Imagine playing COD on the road with YOUR gamertag on servers where other PS3 users are on. The possibilities are endless. Yes it will cost 500 bucks, but so did my iPad and I think my iPad was worth every penny.

Here's a video of an E P I C games developer demoing the unreal engine on the NGP and talking about how easy it is to port games from the PS3 to the NGP.

Totally man. The video I posted above shows off the game he is talking about.

I also think people need to realize that what this thing does and what Nintendo does with the 3DS are two completely different things. I've been seeing a lot of people hating on the NGP all over the net, saying that GFX don't mean crap, Nintendo makes better hand held games, etc etc. Speaking for myself, I never got into the whole Nintendo DS genre of games. Aside from the idea of playing NES/SNES games the platform never appealed to me. When I bought my iPad and started downloading games, I really fell in love with some of the games that used the touch screen really well. The NGP takes the iOS platform head on as well as being as being an actual console alternative/companion. How amazing is that?

Agreed, and with them now together with Android... the possibilities are endless!

I don't get why they just don't call the damn thing PSP2.

Anyways, the PSP to PS3 stuff has me REALLY interested in this now if it happens to be like some of you guys are talking about. The only thing that sucks is I have a 360, but it just sounds so intriguing to be able to take what you're playing at home on the road seamlessly.

I believe it will eventually be called PSP2... they just want the PR drilled in people's heads that is truly is a "next generation portable"... and that is what all the tech and gaming sites will refer to it as until the proper name is announced.

And it seems to be working.

As far as the price, I'm sure it will be comparable to an iPod and I would definitely prefer one of these over an iPod. The big question for me is how much would I use this? I've never owned a handheld before (kids have a DS) but this thing has me intrigued. Being able to potentially play a PS3 game, export to PSP2 to play at lunch and then continue on the PS3 would be freaking awesome.

Some just said it "looked like Uncharted 1"... but it is a whole new game from what I heard. Probably in the same style as GoW on the portable... an in between story or the like.
