I might pick up HSG now that it is $20......too bad digital version hasn't dropped in price yet, unless it did.

I could be wrong, but if the Vita is going to succeed, they are going to have to expand their market. Cross-buy, arguably, shrinks the market. I am an Xbox/PSP gamer, so cross-buy does nothing for me. I am on the fence about the Vita, basically waiting for a price reduction and/or GTA, Burnout and hockey. Seeing the efforts Sony is making to get PS3 owners to buy the Vita is just pushing me away.

        That makes zero sense.

I'm sure the last time I saw a commercial for The Dark Knight Rises, I was telling myself to stay as far away from it as possible. They must have been desperate to get people to see it because it was so awful.

The cross-buy program makes a hell of a lot of sense. There is no other way around it: you're buying the same game twice. If they are two different experiences (see Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Call of Duty, etc), then I understand why they won't combine the purchase. If it's a game that you're taking from a console to a handheld between saves, I don't see where the need is to have to pay full price for both. If you want one (say, just the Vita version), you can just pay it separately and get it. There was a thread for The Show where I made my case about a bundle deal, and it seems they went for it (not sure if I had any influence, but the logic was sound to take off $20). If they kept doing that, that would be cool. For free? That's gravy son.

Portal 2 came with a code to get the PC version for free via Steam. Portal 2 was also my favorite game of 2011. I don't think we're finding very many correlations here that you can go by to make your argument.

Price reductions always makes for a better move to increase the Vita's success, period.

I do agree with half of what you are saying - you are correct, the cross-buy will not shrink sales. I did not phrase that well. However, how much will it expand sales? How many of you folks already are PS3 owners? How many non-PS3 owners have purchased a Vita? I am getting the impression this forum thread is way over 90% PS3 folks. I firmly believe the Vita survives only if sales expand beyond the PS3 user base. All I am saying is cross-buy does nothing to help expand the market already existing. I want Sony to focus more on enticing us non-PS3 people to buy a Vita.

Well, you just might not be in their target market. If you didn't buy a PS3 initially, and they're trying to replicate the PS3 experience on a handheld, I don't know what you'd be looking for, if that makes sense.

Plus, I don't have a Smartphone or anything like that. This purchase was a no-brainer for me. It fulfilled that absence in my technology library.

Valid point, but, as a PSP owner who would certainly consider upgrading to a Vita, I (humbly) think I should be in their target market. And, maybe the lackluster sales of the Vita reflect that Sony's target market may have been initially drawn too narrowly?

I love my iPhone, and some games are great on it (certain types of games), but, for me, the iPhone is no substitute for a mobile gaming system like the PSP or Vita.

They are targeting you with their new bundles rather than the promotions that promote synergy with their products, though they'd certainly like to add enough of them to convince you to pick up a PS3 at some point too.

A nice UMD conversion program would have gone a long way to attract holdouts to the new handheld IMO.

The lack of one is what kept me from picking it up for so long.

Ok, how exactly do you set up a head-to-head match/private tournament with a friend(s) playing Hot Shots?

You have to go into one of the online lobbies, and from there press triangle and select Multiplayer Room. Choose the room type between New Real (a mode where everyone hits their shots at the same time, 1-8 players), Stroke (Alternating, 1-4 players), or Match (2 players). The rest of the options are pretty self explanatory except HSG Rules, which allow you to set certain conditions for the round to make it harder or easier. Once you're done, hit confirm settings, create and wait for people to join.

To join, go to a lobby, press traingle and choose rooms list. If you're in the samer lobby as the person who created the game you should see it immediately, but you can also cycle through any game in any lobby with the L and R buttons. Once you find it just hit x to enter!

I'm actually free right now, if you don't mind me jumping in. I'm on Horse floor lobby 1 if you want to join me.

That was a lot of fun!

We'll have to get some more matches in - I'd like to spend a little more time in SP so I can unlock some more stuff, lol!

Yep, that's exactly what kept me from immediately buying a Vita. When I bought an Xbox 360, I was able to play some of my Xbox games while building my 360 library. If I could have done this with my PSP games, I would have bought on day one.
