It would be pretty tough to beat the Golds if they would have spent an extra $2 for a more robust headband. Unless your head is the size of an avocado, they are almost certainly going to crack and break at some point within the first year or two you own them.

That's silly, you don't know that for sure. Everyone's different, not everyone's experience with golds is gonna be your experience. And yes I realize it's happened to many people but that doesn't mean it's a sure thing to happen to him. I can also speak from experience on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I've said it at least three times in this thread, I've had my golds since they released for the PS4 (Feb 2014) and other than them being loose now due to age not a single crack, break, or anything.

Yeah. My launch golds are still 100 percent. I had a second pair break after about a year but that was because I legit threw them on the ground (not like Nolan Ryan throw, but like a flick of the wrist toss).

I know there's a lot of reports on the web about build quality issues, maybe we see the lucky ones, but my golds are one of my favorite purchases this gen

Haha, my big ol' head (I guess) cracked mine after a lot...A LOT...of use. I just taped them up and they still work great. When the time comes I will gladly buy another pair of Golds to replace these.

If they are loose, there are cracks in the headband. The way the headband is molded, there's not a lot of flex, and it can't stretch too much without cracking the plastic. Both of my pairs cracked, you couldn't see them but you could definitely feel them. First pair I counted something like 20 cracks forming before I stopped and just sent the things to Sony. They weren't visible, or detectable in any way unless the headband was under flex, but on my head you could run your hand along the headband and feel every little valley where a crack had formed.

My replacement pair I noticed the same thing happening after a couple of weeks, so I just applied Sugru to the band and went on with it, they definitely won't crack all the way with that on there.

Here is the picture I took of my golds' cracks, can't say for sure they would have cracked all the way, but they were definitely cracked. I'm flexing the headband here, otherwise you couldn't see or feel them.

                  Re: Gaming headsets

I checked again, no indentations or anything, and the looseness has been there for about a year already.

And by loose, right at the swinging hinges if that's where you meant. That's where mine have become loose the last year.

I think I've more than gotten my money's worth out of therm. If they were to ever crack I'd just go Coff's route with them and give em to my son.

Then buy a new one of course.

Good idea. I got mine this past January and it's one of the better purchases I've made. Absolutely love them. No issues with wear or cracking or anything either. I treat them well, yes, but I constantly take them on/off during gaming so the band does get worked out.

I haven't used the 880 but I can say the DT 990 Premium 600ohm are incredible. I run them with an amp but it's not really necessary. For long gaming sessions I've never found a more comfortable set.

Also the playstation pulse elite is quite possibly one of the worst headsets for comfort I've ever tried.

Went to put my headset on this evening and this happened:

Took a look at the other hinge and:

I liberally applied gorilla tape, they look kind of janky but they won't fall apart so whatever.
