And that's fine, and it's a genuine innovation, but to act like nintendo's approach is perfect (especially when you don't have the console yet) is shortsighted, IMO. It might turn out to be great. It might turn out to be a disaster. Who knows?

Agree but also coming into a thread of something you (not you, just in general ) have no intention of purchasing just to be down on it, is also just as shortsighted.

I doubt it will be perfect since we've never had a perfect system and never will. It's simply another game machine that I hope delivers some fun.

I didn't mean to give the impression that their approach is "perfect". I am excited for a new system and I like it. Let's just leave it at that haha.

I don't think the innovation, lack of achievements, originality and fun factor (the main points of my post) have a chance to "turn out to be a disaster".

I'm just wondering how well it will do after early adopters and opportunists. Going down the path of the Wii is not really a good thing, and if next gen consoles get officially announced in the next few months you could get many people to pass.

Then if those HD consoles release next fall and the WiiU looks relatively underpowered or inferior by comparison the way the Wii did, that could be a big problem for the longevity of the system - also like the Wii.

This is where achievements, attracting core gamers, etc all is very important. This can't become another platform for 1st party titles and shovelware.

I am actually still undecided as to whether or not I'm going to get one. If I had the money laying around, I probably would have. So I'll keep monitoring the discussion around it.

Normally I'd agree but Nintendo (So far) has been bullet proof. However I guess there will be a time they do fail. Just hope it's not this time lol
I don't see the new systems coming out before 2014 IMO. "Possibly" holiday 2013 I guess.
By then I'd bet the Wii U will have a price drop to coincide.
And as inferior the Wii was it still was the top console in sales for what 3-4 years?

I just want to keep as many options out there. 3 consoles are better than 2.. (not finacially for me but you know what I mean )

That's the only reason I'm getting on is it's my X-Mas gift
Wife is getting a ton of new furniture etc...
If the system fails to meet expectations you can rest assured I'll let it be known.
For me it's all about teh Nintendo games also. I'll be just as excited for when the PS4/720 is releasing. I just want to really try and only go with one of those the next time. ... (I hope I can do it )

So I've saved up money, and decided this week to get the console...all the stores I checked had their pre orders done...do I have a chance at getting one if I go Saturday night/Sunday morning to get one?

Whats with this underpowered crap...its got enough to hang just fine....if you know anything....power is the lastthing you should care about...games simple as that is key...

With new consoles less than a year away, power is of great concern.

I'm a professional with an upper mgmt job and I do pretty well, I'm also a compulsive video game player, and I'M going to have a hard time buying another $600 console. It's just too expensive. My opinion.

I don't think either company is insane enough to go that high, but there may very well be cell phone-style plans for the new Xbox anyway, further reducing the cost.

I have no idea what Sony is doing. .
