I'm treating the Wii U for exactly what it is... a "change of pace console." Playing PS3 and 360 feels the same to me, but when I play Wii U, it's a different feel. This was not designed to rival the other consoles; it's just an updated Wii. Think Sega 32x. I'm happy with the purchase and my wife has fun with it, so I'm good.

Re: Wii U Discussion
I think the reason why people are more critical of this system than the 360/PS3 is that it feels like Nintendo is just joining the HD/Internet party, so they should have learned a lot of the lessons that MS and Sony had to learn as they felt this process out. The roadmap is basically there in front of Nintendo, and they managed to botch a lot of things. When the 360/PS3 came out, there were no such things as iPhones, XBLA, or PSN, or anything like that. Those companies built those services from scratch. Nintendo seems to have chosen to ignore a lot of things that made those systems successful/convenient (like not tying purchases to hardware) and have instead seemingly released a system designed in 2005 in 2012. It's not good enough in many people's eyes. Had this system launched within a year or 2 of the 360/PS3, people would have been a lot more forgiving, I think.
Im awaiting the new 27" iMac and have been since May. People kept telling me to just buy the 2011 model but I said I wouldnt pay full price for last year's technology.
Well, with this system we're paying for technology that is about 6 years old, more or less.
Plus, games that people are raving about, such as Nintendoland and Mario, I find boring and been there, done that.
It could just be me, thoughPSN: Peji911Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Its the fun that counts regardless of "power"... and regretting it 2 days in = not really knowing what you are buying. Guess that's why they have the phrase "buyers remorse" though.
And I never said having valid complaints was wrong. Saying it's gimmicky when it is an advancement and one MS hopes to be in on with smartglass etc.. is not fair. Is the VITA cross play gimmicky? Of course not, it's an advancement.. because it's not named Nintendo.
That's all I'm saying. Complaints are fine but there shouldn't be 2 sets of rules, 1 for MS/Sony and 1 for Nintendo.
Even the launch list was better than average compared to previous releases.
I agree that they had better take the gampad forward as if not.. it may be a short run for the WiiU. However I still don't think it matters about the 720/PS4.. Nintendo never has been about competing with them. With that said this console doesn't have the "OMG I HAVE TO GET" vibe this go round.. at least I don't see that out there.
From here on out I'm simply going to talk about the games and leave the rest alone.
And on the complaint side..... WTF did they have to reverss the freaking button layout?
That still gets me from time to time playing Madden. I will probably drop Madden after the new season of 3SD starts as having to get muscle memory for 2 layouts isn't good for this "aged" gamer..
I just hope ZombiU is a good ride.
I have a ps3 that I havent touched in years, and an Xbox 360 that I play daily. All I know is that I dont feel the need to put my xbox down in favour of the wiiU... and that says a lot.
But never did I compare the 2 systems... this wiiU simply feels like a rehash, and that bothers me.PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Did you get it at Best Buy, Target, or Walmart? If so, just return it and move on. I don't see any reason to hang onto a system you don't like.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
You keep bringing up Xbox and PS3 but I never did. I didnt buy the WiiU to compare it to those 2 systems because Nintendo has always gone in a different direction.

It's all good. Same with my PS3 as it's going to be my yearly MLB The Show.
I honestly think I'm burned out from what we have now with the PS3 and 360. Just looking for something new/different.
I'm FPS burned out for sure.
I hope we see a good amount of better AI in the 720 and PS4 but a lot of that will rely on the developers.
I hate being an early adoptor but I can't help it. As long as the next systems aren't 500.00 I'll probably jump day 1...
In the end I think we all want new experiences. I simply am tired of the same ole. The main reason I jumped on the WiiU is I've been away from Nintendo games for a good while so it's sort of a fresh feeling.
Didn't mean/want to offend anyone so if I did I'm sorry.Last edited by Skyboxer; 11-23-2012, 12:07 PM.Joshua:

Re: Wii U Discussion
The other reason is that I genuinely like Nintendo and am hoping that if better games come out, the system's value will improve for me.
I see them releasing a new WiiU faily soon with more storage/better hardware, which would suck for us early buyersPSN: Peji911Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
I'll be getting mine monday. I'm looking for games to pick up with the console, and thought I'd come here for suggestions. So far, I have a couple in mind:
007 Legends*
New Super Mario Bros
Nintendo Land (which I believe will come with the console for me)
ZombiU
Trine ll*
Any other suggestions? I'm not quite as high on ZombiU after the reviews came out, but I can't help but think its the kind of game that would be right up my alley. Thanks!Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Wii U Discussion
Yeah man, its going to be underpowered once the other consoles hit. We all knew that months ago. If that bothers you dont buy it.
I play lots of dif games though on all different formats so this not being as good as ps4 wont bother me. My son and I play PC, NES, SNES, PS2, Nintendo DS, PS3, Xbox 360 all kinds of stuff. Whats funny is that he never says dad i dont want to play Mega Man, the graphics suck. Its all about having fun.
That being said I get it if you want systems with better graphics, hell I'll buy at least one of the two. But my point is you can have a great experience no matter what the power of the WiiU is.Comment

I'll be getting mine monday. I'm looking for games to pick up with the console, and thought I'd come here for suggestions. So far, I have a couple in mind:
007 Legends* Haven't tried
New Super Mario Bros Love it BUT it's Mario.. No real surprises but fun
Nintendo Land (which I believe will come with the console for me) On the Deluxe..Yes. My daughter and I have a blast with it.
ZombiU Just picked up last night after some of my friends (Here and OS) gave it good remarks. Also check out, like was suggested to me, Giant Bomb Review It's a survival horror game and some reviews really knock it for not beinga action zombie game (COD).
A part of the review:
"All of these words later, and I've somehow said nothing about how damn scary ZombiU is. I played Amnesia: The Dark Descent this year, and ZombiU gave that one a run for its money. You feel alone in ZombiU, often fighting and scavenging in total darkness. Your flashlight provides little useful illumination, and the moments where it runs out, forcing you to recharge while a zombie shuffles towards you, are paralyzing. The 30 minutes I spent in a nursery are some of the most memorable time I've spent with a horror game or movie, punctuated by a jump scare that literally took my breath away. Survival horror fans disenchanted with the direction Capcom's taken the Resident Evil series will find much to love in ZombiU, and anybody looking for a quality launch title with deep, rewarding mechanics are encouraged to see what Ubisoft--yes, Ubisoft-has created."
Plus once you get system hooked up and the update done go to the Miverse for that game and you'll see a lot of impressions. Miiverse is great.
Trine ll* I'm downloading this tonight! Miiverse and reviews have me excited to play it.
Any other suggestions? I'm not quite as high on ZombiU after the reviews came out, but I can't help but think its the kind of game that would be right up my alley. Thanks!Last edited by Skyboxer; 11-23-2012, 01:08 PM.Joshua:

Re: Wii U Discussion
Awesome, thanks for the tips! I'm actually kind of excited about ZombiU. The more I read about it, the more I see its really the kind of game for those who enjoyed the earlier RE's, and newer stuff like Dark Souls. I'm good for a challenge, and have been looking for a survival zombi game for forever now.Writer for Operation Sports
