Had my son try it at GameStop. He didn't care for the controller as much as he wanted to play Mario, it was a little too wide and wasn't fun for him to control. Got him Mario for the DS and Rise of the Guardians (which we had just seen) for 360 and he's super happy.

Hope everyone else enjoys the WiiU and it has a good life span.

As far as it being gimmicky.. I really don't understand that at all. If you don't like the system (after 2 days??) then I'm not sure what you expected.

The gamepad actually adds alot to gaming and if developers uses it correctly then the future should be great. I mean even PS3 owners want the same stuff via the VITA and PS3 tie in and XBOX with the smartglass..

Just like most new consoles the early games from outside developers aren't "perfect".

The Wii U seems to be get more critical thinking than the 360 or PS3 did..

and with that I'm heading to the abyss

I think the gimmicky comments come in because this machines draw is centered around the tablet and not the system itself which offers about the same or less in some cases of current machines that are at least 6 years old

          It is kinda disappointing
That's not what Sony did to bee honest...its an enhancement for their system not the main crux of it if that makes sense and even then the vita goes wherever you do not a few feet from the ps3

My point with the Vita I've seen where people want it to do what the WIiU pad actually does do /
enhance gameplay etc..(and what Smartglass is heading towards) So it shouldn't be gimmicky for nintendo and yet a (hopefully) upcoming "feature" for VITA and 360.
And yes you can take the VITA anywhere and that is very cool but wasn't comparing the VITA to the WiiU at all but rather what people want the VITA to do with the PS3.
If you want a handheld then obviously go VITA or 3DS

This is just another,IMO, feature that is being compared apples to oranges. No one touted the WiiU as a handheld but the system gives you the option of playing the games right on pad while others watch tv. Instead of looking at it as a plus its compared to handhelds. There were tons of times I would have loved to keep gaming while daughter etc.. Took over tv but couldn't.
If MS does it somehow with smartglass theyd be praised.(However unlikely that is to happen)

And lastly we all knew what the WiiU was going to be- a HD Nintendo system with gamepad functionality which would be underpowered compared to the next systems.
No reason to have been surprised by it when you bought it. If it wasn't for wanting to get back into Nintendo games I wouldn't have bought it.
Which is probably why I and others are happy with it so far and has been far from disappointing. Plus I never ever would have a Nintendo system as the only one in Nintendos current state among the 3.
            Its simply my Nintendo system.
I'm just as excited to see where systems go from here.

Now I'll just be patiently waiting for Pikmin 3 and a Animal crossing.

Same deal...i said the comments came because this system is already old and under par and it just released compared to the other systems

The vita is an extra not a staple of the ps3...that's the difference

I don't care either way but what I'm saying it's you seemed as shocked that people are calling nintendo on this on the internet

Well not everyone is smart shoppers.
again we knew what the system was. There was no surprise in what they were releasing.
So not shocked at all. Expected especially these days at OS.

And really I dont care if people like it or not. Really I don't. I just come in here and Miverse to have discussions about the games etc..with others who are enjoyjng it.

Moving on and hope the games get better and better and hold me over while the new system details are getting released. (And Pikmin 3)

We didn't actually, because Nintendo still hasn't released specs. We had to wait for third party tear downs, and review/impression embargoes that didn't expire until the day the console was released.

Because of that I think some people held out hope that they weren't going to be compelled to buy the next 360/PS3 in 12-18 months to play modern console games. Assumptions that it can run games the same caliber as those being released on relatively ancient hardware appear to have been misplaced so far as well.

None of this makes them 'dumb' or 'uninformed' shoppers either. They're simply hopeful gamers.

We knew it would be slightly more powerful (relative term) that what we already had. We knew enough to know what we were getting, at least I did. A Nintendo system. And if you didn't know enough then why buy.
                    Whatever. Nintendo sucks. System sucks.

Can we move on now and let people who are into the system enjoy an area to discuss it now....

Just want to get this right...only you who are enjoying can discuss the system?

Regardless of what you say here even if it's not completely something that may be a concern or discussion topic about the console?

Of course not. Seriously using the Madden Forum playbook of responses?

Discussing it is one thing. Popping in every so often saying the same stuff over and over is pointless.

So the pad is a gimmick and seems flimsy, its underpowered, it will be obsolete in a year or so, they screwed up the button layouts, only 32 gig or 8 gig hard drives(can use external though but not all work well), price of games may be a bit high like Scribblenauts and we still don't know the full specs.

                        What else?

Did you get to play any games on it? The kiosks I've used seem to not even have the Rayman demo on them anymore, just videos.

Anyone have their system upright? I currently have mine flat but may put it upright. And does anyone currently have an external HHD hooked up? I may have to get a USB y cable and use two ports as mine goes to sleep then I get the "Dont un hook HDD while system is on" message. Is that a HDD issue (not issue as in problem) or will the 2 USB hookups keep it from going into sleep mode?

Looks like I'll trade in Madden tomorrow and put towards Lego City. Just too used to the 360 button configuration. Wish they would have had a control edit in Madden.
