Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?

It's gonna be coming out 6-7 years after 360/ps3. If their new console isn't more powerful than those then I will be stunned. I'm not expecting it to be way more powerful but at least a little bit better.

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?

I've lost all interest in Nintendo systems since the Gamecube and Wii, but hopefully this doesn't rush Sony and MS into the next gen of consoles any sooner than they planned.

Don't get me wrong, as an unbiased gamer I hope the system is good, I'm just not ready for a new PlayStation/Xbox yet. I think there's still plenty of value left in those systems.

I'm interested in this because I passed on the Wii and there are a few games I'd like to go back and pick up.

Re: New Nintendo Console in 2012?

Keep in mind this site got the NGP details spot on, so this could very well be true.

            http://www.01net.com/editorial/53166...2-de-nintendo/

-the console is codenamed "Project Café"
-will be introduced at E3 2011
-architecture is very similar to the Xbox 360; the Café is a bit more powerful than the 360
-porting current xbox 360 titles to the Café should be very easy
-should be retro-compatible with GameCube and Wii games, and support all Wii peripherals
-Specs : CPU is custom IBM PowerPC with three cores, GPU should be an ATI from the R700 family, with a shader unit at version 4.1. Ram should be at least 512 Mb.
-the controller is a touch tablet, with moderate graphic output (appears to be sub-HD, so nothing comparable to an Ipad, for example.)
-controller specs : 6-inch screen, single touch (so no multitouch, it seems), front camera, acts as a wii sensor bar, has a d-pad, two bumpers, two triggers, possibly more.
-should be released in June of 2012 (for Japan ?), and holiday season (in the West ?)
-there is another big surprise they can't talk about just yet

"Bit more powerful than the 360"? LOL Oh boy, here we go. So Nintendo launches next yeah, then Sony/MS crush it in 2013.

I think we've seen this story before.

Top it off, it will be a 360 port machine from the sounds of it.

I don't get all the negativity on the Wii. I got just what I expected out of it. Some fun motion control gaming (for a while anyway), great Nintendo exclusives and a few decent third party games.

I have to hand it to Nintendo for their innovation. First motion controls for the Wii. Now their next console having a tablet type device as a controller! Like an Ipad plus console working together. Could be huge.

The tablet-style controller sounds interesting, but strange in a bad way. Guess we'll have to see what it's like and how it works.

BTW Project Cafe' might be the worst codename ever.

                        The Wii360 lives!

So, basically, they are going to go innovative on the controller again. But, copy the Xbox specs and architecture in a way that all current titles are easily portable?

Let me guess, the surprise is that they are upgrading their online service..to try to keep pace with XBox Live, but keep it free.

I'm a custom PC gaming junkie, so I'm gonna get a little technical. The Radeon 700 is still fairly weak. This falls into the 4000 series group and they weren't great cards. I had a 4850 in my rig and it got extremely hot...almost burning your hand hot. It had to get that hot to produce the graphics it did. Heat usually means output. Keeping in mind that companies are cramming stronger and stronger gear in miniature sized cases, I realize they can only do so much. Obviously this is gonna be a mobile version of the 4000. Sure to be a good performance hit. Not sure which one, but most likely the weakest. I realize dedicated gaming machines like consoles can do amazing things with weak hardware The Xbox's GPU is related to the X1900 series GPUs (weak and old) and the PS3's GPU are based on the Geforce 7 Series (weak and old). Radeon is at the 6800 series now. Way more efficient and much stronger. In short, I see overheating problems like the 360 and PS3 had in Nintendo's future.

I'll still buy it. I don't understand all the hating on the Wii, as it's been a fun console, and I've always enjoyed the Mario and Zelda games and recently Kirby's **** Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns have been games that in my opinion were amazing. Kirby was such a uniquely stylized game that would never have been released on the the "big boy" consoles.

Plus, we still enjoy Wii Sports battles, have had fun with Wii Party, and frankly, that's what matters. My son has started enjoying the catalog of old NES/SNES games and at it's absolute worse, it's a diversion when I'm downstairs doing laundry.

Bring on a new console, Nintendo. Let the haters hate.

Around a place like OS, where the majority are older gamers, you're going to see some dislikes toward the system. But, the Wii has so far been the most successful console out of the 3. The thing still sells strong. In fact, that one console with the BluRay player continues to trail in the competition.

From a sales point the Wii is a goldmine. From an 18-34 gamer perspective the system is frowned upon for its lacking of depth.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

well it's nintendo, so the rumors going from more powerful than a ps3 to just a bit better than a 360 is more believable. Keeping it conservative and familiar makes it easier for the indifferent 3rd parties to just throw them current gen ports. It's gotta have a relatively modern gpu though, and more RAM would still be an improvement.

I don't know what it really does for them though if true. It puts the console in a dreamcast position with 3rd parties, it's a crap shoot if the wii crowd follows them, and the ps3/360 will be cheap as hell by 2012 for people still holding out for those type of games.
