Re: Wii U Discussion
Well, the wii was outdated. So is the 3DS graphically. Whatever though. Anything that releases alongside a new Mario will sell, and sell well. And Nintendo first party titles are a blast, and an experience that can't be had anywhere else.
I'm psyched, and it's a great deal, at least for me.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
The $300 price point is higher than I wanted but I pre-ordered the basic one anyway. Can always cancel and if the demand is nuts maybe I can flip it if we don't want to use it as a Christmas gift for the kids. The original Wii was an over-priced, over-rated machine and that listed at $279 over here when released (I'm pretty sure). This is only $20 more with a tablet controller so it's actually a better deal than the Wii. It's still a bit over-priced imo.
Either way there is nothing you can do if you want to play first party Nintendo games. This system doesn't have to compete with Sony or MS as they have the most addictive first party library out there. Mario and company sell a ton of games. If you or your kids want to play them you have no choice but to get this system. This is a Mario machine that is using the tablet is a marketing feature just liked the Wii used the motion controls as a Mario machine and marketing feature.
I think the tablet controller could be nice for some games but I don't expect anything revolutionary. It doesn't really matter. Nintendo first party is the system seller.
Also, I chose the basic package because I don't care about Nintendo land, the hdmi cable is worth $5, charging stations and stands are unnecessary and I want to save $50. Plus I prefer the white. The extra size on the hard drive is OK but I can buy an external hard drive if I need to.Last edited by rudyjuly2; 09-13-2012, 05:31 PM.Comment

I understand what youre saying but again, this isnt the Wii
This is a copycat wii version of what we have out here already for cheaper in the 360 and ps3
That's the whole point, the next gen systems will likely be beyond this thing...im not bashing it but that high end priced one is too much.Comment

If it's too much for you to spend, don't spend it. But I'm not preordering it because the tech surpasses what we have, I'm buying it because you can't get the first party Nintendo experience anywhere else. Nintendo titles that are fun to play, now in HD, in a package that includes everything needed to start playing is worth the $350 IMO.
If you disagree, that's cool. We aren't all going to like or agree on the same things (and such is the beauty of having a choice), but at the moment it's like you're trying to convince us NOT to buy, lol.
Besides, I've said it a million times; Nintendo doesn't compete with Sony or Xbox IMO, and Sony and Xbox don't compete with Nintendo. They're completely different companies and philosophies targeting completely different markets.Comment

I mean yah, we get that you think it's priced too high, but again, the current gen consoles were "far beyond" Wii, and the Vita is "far beyond" the 3DS.

I never said I was buying or not.. but Im surely not paying that high price for one of these.
Im not trying to convince anyone, you seem to be taking it personal when im throwing in my thoughts on it. You guys are the one comparing it to the Wii... and I said its a different scenario than the wii and explained why.
I don't know what market they're going after with that price range and EG said because kids dont have that kind of change.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
The market Nintendo is after doesn't really exist on OS. We aren't the market and our thoughts as a sports gaming community don't count. What I personally feel about this system is secondary to what my kids think about it.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Agreed. And for the record, l don't even 100% know if I'll keep my preorder either. It's not because of the price, but because Christmas is a month later... Not sure if I'll be able to justify buying myself something only one month before
I may wait and see what gift cards I get. We'll see.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Mainly because my daughter and I still play the Gamecube (Animal crossing and Mario games) I'm certainly thinking about grabbing one.
Say what you will but games like Mario Universe, Pikmen etc.. are very cool games and frankly other than The Show and Madden (and occasional backtracking with ME), my gaming has been on PC.
If they actually make games that use the full functions I'm all for it.
While I may fall into the more "hardcore" stuff there's no denying that Nintendo does have their own "brand" of games that are fun to play.
The only thing I need to see more of is the backwards compatibility as the one description at GS said BC with "most" Wii games.
Not that that totally matters but would be nice to grab some cheap Wii games I have never played but wanted to as I'm sure they will have a buy 2 get 1 (or 2) free eventually.
Anywho....So that I can at least have one I launch if I decide to (And I will)
I reserved the Deluxe one, Zombie U and New SMB U.
They have some cool packages though on the online store. 1 included New SMB U and Lego and a WiiMote and the other one has ACIII and Zombie U.
Others I know I'll grab:
Rayman legends, Lego City:Undercover and Pikmen 3. (Also a no brainer is any new Zelda or Animal Crossing)Joshua:

Re: Wii U Discussion
Not sure why that Gamestop description would say that, the Wii U is fully backwards compatible with Wii through hardware emulation. It's not like the 360 where it's done through software, and you have to go look up if a certain game is compatible and the performance varies.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Nintendo Will Not Sell GamePad Separately In North America
When Nintendo finally revealed Wii U would support up to two GamePad controllers, one of the first questions many fans asked was "How much will one of those cost?" After Nintendo's Wii U launch presentation earlier today, I caught up with Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime to ask just that. Much to my surprise, Fils-Aime said gamers wouldn't have to worry about it - Nintendo isn't planning on selling GamePads as accessories in North America.
"We have deliberately not announced the availability of the GamePad as a separate, standalone accessory here in the United States," Fils-Aime told me. "The reason for that is simple - there are no games in the launch window that take advantage of a second GamePad. And [because of that], I want all of that hardware production to be focused on driving sales at retail.
"What I mean by that is that Wii U is a console and a GamePad together. If I were to take additional GamePads and make them available as an accessory, then I would have less Wii U console hardware to sell into retail. You know, probably one of your questions is whether I'm going to meet demand. The only way we're going to achieve that here in the Americas is to not have that GamePad accessory, so I can maximize my overall volume."
So there you go. One less thing to factor into your budget.Comment

Re: Wii U Discussion
Yeah right, more like "We know we really ****ed up marketing this thing and too many people think it's just a Wii accessory so to avoid a cluster**** of angry consumers whose new WiiUGamePad won't work with their Wii, we will only sell them attached to a WiiU."Comment
