    Re: Wii U Discussion

Not much out of today's Nintendo Direct. Another one coming closer to E3.

The Wonderful 101 Release Date Announced

Nintendo has announced The Wonderful 101 will be available in Europe from August 23 and North America from September 15.
    Nintendo Announces Sonic: Lost World

Nintendo has announced it has entered an exclusive worldwide partnership with SEGA to produce three Sonic games, the first of which will be Sonic: Lost World.

Nothing was revealed about the game other than a screenshot and the fact that it'll be an action-adventure platforming game for both Wii U and 3DS.
Nintendo bringing playable, unreleased Wii U titles to Best Buy during E3 week

Nintendo will bring unreleased Wii U titles to Best Buy during the week of E3, allowing the public to go hands-on with those upcoming games, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said today during a Nintendo Direct presentation.

"This year, we're making E3 for the people, and we want to make sure you get the chance to try our games as well," said Fils-Aime.

The playable demos will be available at more than 100 Best Buy stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. E3 takes place during the second week of June, from June 11-13. Nintendo will announce the specific games being shown and the Best Buy locations soon.
Yakuza 1 & 2 HD collection coming to Wii U in Japan

Yakuza 1 & 2 HD will bundle the first two games in the open-world crime series for Wii U, it was just announced on the Japanese stream of today's Nintendo Direct press conference.

A trailer for the game shown on the stream showcased some of the upscaled graphics players can expect from the bundle, as well as some of the Wii U-exclusive elements for the platform. Players will be able to monitor their character's status, and navigate through the game's complex streets using a map on the Wii U GamePad.

The bundle will launch on Wii U in Japan August 8. We've reached out to Sega to find out if it's also coming to North America.

      Damn...

Nintendo Wii U: Death By Apathy

But EA has pulled out of the Wii U because sales of both hardware and software are dreadful. We're not officially allowed to report sales numbers from Chart Track in the UK but everyone in the publishing business can see them quite clearly. There's no need for pretence. When you can get to number one in the Wii U charts by selling less than 1000 units it's no longer a tragedy, it's an actual farce.

I'm wondering how Nintendo can now position the Wii U after the XBox One reveal.

I agree they need games, but this whole extra install fee on top of the XBL fee could irritate a few.

I had a 360 last gen, but I'm feeling more and more comfortable with my Wii U purchase each day that passes (call me strange).

Nintendo should market itself as the company that cares about games and games alone.

I'm liking the Wii U now just for that reason. Yes, it's nice to have Netflix and things like that on my gaming console, but I don't need all of the TV/Skype features that are rolling out. The possible elimination of the used game market for Xbox is a killer, too.

I agree. With MS/Sony obviously focusing on social media and entertainment. Nintendo's future campaign should be "We're a video game company. We care about games and only games."

I only like Nintendo more than Sony (though I like Microsoft as much as Nintendo) because Nintendo focuses on GAMES, this is video GAMES that we are talkin about. People think the Wii U sucks, though even though the graphics aren't mind blowing, neither is the PS4 or Xbox One (IMO.) PS4 and One just have a bunch of gimmicks, which I don't care about.

If Nintendo SOMEHOW gets a lot more third party support, I think they could come back. That's the thing that kills companies. I really want Nintendo to come back cause they do have the ideas to make a fun gaming experience. (Just compare the controllers of the last 4 consoles vs the last 4 Ps Controls vs the 4 Xbox controller.) Just general consumers care about the glitz and glamour of specs and useless features that they don't really understand or need.

They want their games to look nice, they want to justify spending another $400+ on a console and games... "come play Mario instead of COD, which will never be on our system ever, but hey we're all about games!" doesn't really fly.

You have a lot of good points, but they're negated by the capabilities of the system. Raw power and capabilities aren't a gimmick, neither are media capabilities since the PS3 is the most-used piece of Netflix hardware and the 360 has been used more for media than for gaming for years yet they are both popular and relatively successful platforms.

Nintendo has exactly between 0% and .01% chance to ever make a return to power with its current leadership and arrogance. For Nintendo to ever be relevant again, it has to get with the times and move with the market. Its arrogance and lack of forward thinking has almost collapsed its brand.

Nintendo should do what they did last gen and make themselves the "other" console. Since there will be little need to get both a PS4 and an Xbox One since they'll have basically the same games, it would be best to be console number 2, the accessory console, to the newer system. Nintendo consoles will always have the 1st-party games trump card in its pocket.

Wii U needs to release games. Then the thing may sell. They can only live off of Zelda and Mario for so long. Not being able to play PS4 and XBone titles wont help matters.

I agree that Nintendo could maybe find a little success with the whole "we only focus on games" thing... But that's a hard sell for a console that isn't really releasing games.

Yeah to be that system, Nintendo has to put out games people want to buy. Mario, Zelda and the like will sell, but Nintendo needs to find some unique 3rd-party games to really make the Wii U stand out.

The 3DS had a similar problem with a lack of games early on. Now they have a lot. It's just going to take time for the Wii U. At this time next year I think the game selection will be a lot better.

                                Re: Wii U Discussion

                                Somewhat crazy thought:

The only way to emulate a 3DS-like revival would be to drop the tablet from the base product and sell it separately. Less emphasis on the tablet the way the 3DS has less emphasis on 3D.

Otherwise, their uphill climb is impeded by competition from Sony and MS, while the primary competition for the 3DS was the previous SKUs people had no reason to move on from.

The only way to get a 2+ console environment like Wii60, PSWii of last gen is to make it affordable to do so, and that won't happen with the tablet.

I'd probably consider getting a $99-$150 Wii U for my son if I had the option later to buy a $99-150 tablet.

There are a lot of reasons to not do this, but it's just a thought.
