I'm downloading my first 3D movie rental from the PSN, John Carter. It's like 7 GB, so hopefully it'll download fast so I can watch it tonight.

It's very simple, but when everything is restored on the new HDD, they may or may not ask that they rebuild the database. You've probably done it for The Show before, but it deletes all created albums, playlists, and PSN incoming/outgoing messages you may have had.

This video shall suffice as a tutorial for how to do it:

Ok I was able to get done work tonight at 11
Anyways I came home and started looking online for HDD etc..
        Then it hit me...
I have a laptop I don't use any longer. I pulled the HDD and its a 5400 SATA and size is 640gb.
All I need now is an external HD to do the backup to. Been wanting one anyways so now I have another excuse to grab one.

Make sure that HDD is formatted to FAT32. That's the only way your PS3 will read it.

There are two programs which I have used that can format HDD's that big to that filetype: Swissknife and fat32formatter.

You're talking about the new (External one) right? The one I'm putting in the PS3 will get formatted by the PS3.. correct? or not?

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion - The New Beginning

Actually, I was kind of talking about both, but you're right... the PS3 should be able to format your 640 GB HDD.

To go back on my earlier question if I have two PS3s with the same PSN do these online codes carry over.

Example: Tiger Woods Golf. Can I play online on both systems with the same online code or do you need a separate code for each system?

Code is tied to your PSN, not your PS3. So you'll be able to play online with both systems, using just one code.

New PS3 firmware 4.21 was just released today, but with no indication of what it does on the blog. Did Sony just want to get off of 4.20 as fast as possible?

It's one of those "improves stability on certain PS3 titles" updates. Actually I think this one is optional.

Is there any way to change the name on your PSN account without deactivating it? I created mine in college and want to change it now. I've looked around but I can't figure out how to do it.

                                Update on HDD Upgrade:

Ok it was a little different than the video. Before the PS3 accepts the new HDD now it has to see firmware update of 3.0(or later) installed first. Think it is some sort of security thing. Plus I never realized the HDD is in a different place than my fatty lol

I put the HDD in and it kept saying it could not find firmware 3.0 and I needed to plug in a USB jump drive with 3.0 or later to continue. So I downloaded the newest version and put in on thumb drive and then you hit select and start.
It grabbed the update - installed it - rebooted and then it allowed me to format the new HDD.

It went to dash and checked and now I am the papa of 600GB...
                                I'm restoring my stuff now.
Thanks for all the help guys.
