Re: Xbox 720
if all this does become real, and even tho0ught I was getting the PS4, I would lose all respect of MS in the console business..
I just image stores like best buy on there returns if people walked out with a 360 and got home and found out they need online just to use there system.N.Y Mets

Re: Xbox 720
A year or two from now that suggestion could be as silly saying Best Buy will have a lot of returns from people buying DirecTV without a TV, or a Blu-Ray player and no movies.
Or perhaps people spending $500+ on a console and accessories will make an informed decision. If that's the reason not to do this, then it's going to happen (see also: 'when i move i dont have internet' and 'my internet might go out' rationales)Comment

With gaming always all you needed was a TV ..hd or not..telling customers they need internet is a big no no imo.

However, I highly doubt that this will be a required feature to play a game, especially if games are still sold as material items and not digital.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Xbox 720
If I get the Xbox, which at this point is in major doubt, I will have to put a piece of paper over the camera. Can't really stop the audio side, but it would the camera. Major security issues though if someone hacks in and is able to see the camera footage.Comment

While it wouldn't change much with the dedicated gamer, the casual gamer would be turned off by the proposition, even if they had a good internet connection at home. There's just no good sales pitch for requiring an internet connection to play games for the average person, especially that un educated mom who's buying Christmas for her son.Comment

I think you're way too quick to dismiss how big of a change this would be.

For me right now I'm not hearing anything that appeals to me coming from MS
I'm not a console fan boy who jumps on one wagon because of the name..I'll see what they both give us first.
Screw the gimmicks and one way benefits, just give me a competent product with good customer service for the money.
As far as being a market dummy I was talking about buying the system to be one, not posting on some random forum

Re: Xbox 720
Just my opinion: It's not going to happen.
What I see here is two things... 1) One cannot do it without the other. If the PS4 decided not to do the online only things (which seems incredibly likely at this point), and Microsoft did, guess which would be in trouble with consumers? If I'm on the fence about which console to buy -- and I am -- things like this are game changers. Microsoft almost certainly not risk that unless Sony did as well.
2) Microsoft probably leaks half of these rumors just to see how people feel about them. As we can all see with this particular rumor, it has not gone over well with gamers.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Xbox 720
I do not see it as having to "always be on" to play a game. I do see it as needing an internet connection to initialize the code for the game. After that the system saves that info and you can play on and off.
To have the system just go dark if there is no internet connection is a bit much.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

I've also seen rumors saying Microsoft is looking to sell off a lot of their divisions, and XBox is one of the ones they would sell off.badComment

Re: Xbox 720
Why would they do that? The Xbox is one of their best selling products and gives them a chance to get the Windows ecosystem into more homes. It especially wouldn't make sense for them to sell it off with PC sales declining and their other divisions not doing so well.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: Xbox 720
Also a quote from the article.
Originally posted by Forbes.comThese trends mean huge challenges for Microsoft.
Microsoft makes more than 75% of its profits from Windows and Office. Less than 25% comes from its vaunted servers and tools. And Microsoft makes nothing from its xBox/Kinect entertainment division, while losing vast sums in its on-line division (negative $350M-$750M/quarter). No matter how much anyone likes the non-Windows Microsoft products, without the historical Windows/Office sales and profits, it’s hard to see how long Microsoft can remain sustainable.badComment
