    Re: Xbox 720

Honestly... I think there is some validity to what we are hearing because the game industry is missing money somewhere and want to stop it.

This gen although they'll probably try to justify what theyre doing on used games, has produced some of the most bug riddled, and stale games in the likes of the funk Hollywood was in for some time. Tons of studios were killed off and sports games probably suffered the worst of them all.

I see more quantity of games than quality IMO... so now they're looking to redirect the focus off of just pure games into some other arenas to make this nex gen stick. All of the trying so hard to be different than the next backfired on them a little bit in the end this last time.

No used games would be a valid concern for me..
This would mean I'd certainly (other than a handfull of titles) wait for price drops.

In the current "Release it and we'll fix it after 2 or 3 patches" world AND the fact you can't return new games, I just simply won't buy at release.

Said it before.. If new games could be returned when you realize parts are broken but "will be fixed 2 months later after a patch" then cool.
Otherwise, used games have saved me a lot of $ on trash.

Doesn't bother me. I'm always connected, always buy new. Plus the gaming industry been hinting at this for the past 3 years now. If people paid attention, they would have noticed games get on games on demand on Xbox marketplace way quicker then it use to. Use to take a half year or more, now games get on there 2 months after it hit stores. I won't be surprised for next gen it will be on demand on release date.

The only customer base they will hurt is kids. Because you do have some kids who don't have internet access where they game at or internet at their house period.

Agreed, but at what cost? save the gamer a few bucks but have the actual developers get nothing, then cancel future products down the line because they don't have enough "sales" for the publisher? Quite frankly, who know how many games we don't have because of GS and the buying and selling back of used games killed the potential Greenlight of other products.

I have alway bought New out of respect for the publisher/developer and want to support them and their work, but I have never been a "Collector" and constantly trade in my games for credit, so this will effect me as well. However, I think in the long run it will help the Developers health which will only benefit all of us down the line.

Also, the effect of people being more "Careful" with how they spend their money will help too, by forcing developers to make quality performance from the get go as Sales will fall on the reports of buggy games.

Its odd to think we may not be able to trade in games, but I truly think it is for the best in the long run.

If you have Stock in GS, GET OUT.

Games are getting cancelled anyway and its not because of used games.

If they think that's the reason people arent buying in bulk then they're missing a huge factor.

Either way, it should be interesting to see how this plays out. The overwhelming response seems to be very negative and basically to the point of "I will not buy this system".

Will be fun to see if that is true, my guess is that it will actually have very little effect on sales if it is implemented and no one will talk about it soon after.

LOL don't think its time for a poll yet but yeah you're right.

Honestly since I'm able to now, i'd go the pc route on some games if I had to instead of some of what is rumored although I doubt it will be exactly as stated in what we've heard so far.

Alienating little johnny goes against everything they've been doing up until now.

I will not buy a console that is always online and/or kills used sales. I've got plenty of games spanning generations in my collection that I can play without this garbage.

It's anti consumer and all about greed. It'll be fun watching the bloated AAA only console industry crash happen as they expect tens of millions of people to buy $60 games that are tied to hardware. There's plenty of indie companies that would keep putting stuff out on PC and touchscreen devices.

                      Re: Xbox 720

EDGE is awfully confident in their sources. They put up another article.

Risky business: the next Xbox versus PlayStation 4

If our sources are correct (and we’re confident they are), Microsoft has made the move that publishers and developers have been asking for. Microsoft’s next Xbox will do what Steam and the App Store have been doing for years, and very successfully, too – a download-first, one profile, one purchase, one storefront system.
The key differences between Steam, the App Store and the next iteration of Xbox Live are in pricing and that ‘always-on’ detail. There’s good reason no-one really cares that you can’t trade in Steam and App Store games – often, they’re so cheap it barely seems worth the bother. One can easily call into question whether download-first next-gen games will actually be any cheaper because they skip costly manufacturing and distribution processes. One would expect they won’t be. On first impressions, Microsoft is taking a huge risk in cutting out a second-hand games ecosystem which keeps gaming affordable and its players interested in the box under their television.

But it is worth remembering that in adopting this download-first policy, Microsoft is free from existing pricing models. One can easily imagine premium prices for those titles deemed still worthy of a retail release. Service-based subscriptions for bigger, costlier games will play a part, too, and middle and lower tier games will sell further down the pricing scale. And let’s not forget free-to-play.
What’s trickier for Microsoft is in explaining its decision when faced with Sony’s plans for the PlayStation 4. Walk into a game retailer (should you be able to find one by the time these consoles arrive) and the choice could be simple: PlayStation 4 is more powerful, and plays second-hand games. One can imagine how fruitful a call between Kaz Hirai and Don Mattrick might have been had they both agreed to take the same measures against second-hand sales.

Based on our sources’ information, we are building an ever clearer picture of what PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox will be. Right now, there seems to be a subtle role reversal happening; Microsoft’s stricter, more complex box aspires to be the complete entertainment superhub PS3 was once designed to be. Sony’s PlayStation 4 is more PC-like and developer-friendly, as Xbox once was.

What hasn’t changed is the logistical challenge of launching a home console. We understand that PS4 will reach the US and Japan by the end of this year, with European territories to follow after Christmas, just as PS3 did. What Microsoft might stand to lose in halting the second-hand market, it could gain if it manages to launch its new console globally before PS4.

GameStop Slides; Report Next Xbox Won't Allow Used Games

GameStop shares are trading sharply lower this morning on a report that the next generation of Microsoft Xbox game consoles – which are expected to debut later this year – will prevent player from installing used games. That would be a blow to the game retailer, which does a bristling business in used game software.

If this happens, so long as the PS4 has wireless capabilities (like the current 360 model) that will probably be the route I'm going.

I am curios in how Microsoft (if the rumor is true) is going to go about having to buy via downloads? Will they continue to go with the format of having to buy Microsoft Points? Or will it be credit/debit card only?

If it's the latter I can see this failing spectacularly.
