Re: Xbox One
I'm laughing at the people who think that Xbox would just be killed off. Most of the people in this thread who brought are usually exclusively Sony guys, and NeoGaf is ALL Sony.
I'm not sure how people don't understand the concept that Microsoft makes money off of Xbox. That doesn't have to mean that the console itself literally makes money. If Microsoft does want to end their affiliation with Xbox, and there's several reasons why they might do that even though it is making them money, it will end up in someone else's hands. The idea that Elop would "kill it off" is absurd and laughable. Bringing up Nokia is even funnier, because it was hemorrhaging money.
Still, I think there is a valid concern that MS would sell Xbox off, or spin it off into its own thing. Who knows what exactly that would mean for Xbox, but the fact is, we aren't going to have to worry about it in another ten years anyway. The Xbox One is already here, and there was always a semi-decent chance this was going to be the last generation or true consoles anyway. Streaming is becoming so popular we won't need an Xbox or Playstation anymore. The whole thing has been fueled by fanboys.
PS: It was noted in Game Informer last month that there is less than 1% of shareholders who want to sell off the Xbox division. The fact is, while not their most profitable branch, they can use Microsoft as a means of giving all of their other software a boost (ie, music, video, tablets).Last edited by BenGerman; 02-26-2014, 04:56 AM.Writer for Operation Sports

Saying it's a valid concern after outright dismissing all points is just trying to talk out both sides of your mouth.
You keep saying XBox makes Microsoft money, when it's pretty much reported on multiple business (not gaming) sites that that is false and that the XBox division [not "The Console"] (along with Skype and Windows Phone) loses billions of dollars which is saved by Android patent royalties.
Nokia was brought up because of Elop and Elop alone. He hastened the downfall of a company on the way down. He's noted for wanting to spin off the division and now he gets put in charge of it.
Investors (and Paul Allen himself) are calling for MS to ditch the XBox/Skype/devices divisions.
I don't think anyone in their right mind is calling for the XBox/360/XBone to go away, but saying it may no longer be a Microsoft product in the future is discussing the realities of business - not some fanboy wet dream.
As for streaming becoming more and more popular? Yeah, it is. That doesn't mean we have the infrastructure set up in the US to support it. For a developed country, our internet performance/prices/bandwidth caps are absolutely putrid.badComment

Re: Xbox One
If you're referring to me, calling me an "exclusively Sony guy" is more than laughable. Same for calling NeoGAF all Sony. Nor do I think anyone here has ever suggested the XBOne would just wither and die if MS sold it.

I guess you are not too familiar with NeoGaf, because it has been dominated by Sony people for as long as I can remember. I'm as big of a Sony guy as I am an Xbox guy. I laugh because everyone loves to turn it into a big pissing match.
How am I talking out of both sides of my mouth? I'm almost entirely sure you are making too much out of my post. Is it a valid concern Xbox will be killed off? No. Is it a valid concern MS could sell Xbox off? Yes.
To continue, it seems like your entire post is one big strawman argument. Did you read the part where I said it would be ten years from now until said infrastructure was ready? At what point did I say that Xbox leaving the market wasn't a concern, because we could immediately switch to streaming? Unless you're reading something I'm not, I never said that.
FWIW, Forbes wrote an article with comments from MS, and noted that the Xbox console (note, the console itself) projects to break even. That doesn't include the rest of the software attached, and the added benefits of supporting Microsofts other branches. Things like MS's music are NOT attached to their Xbox Division, even though a huge chunk of their music sales come directly from MS. Same with their videos.
Look, Uber, I wasn't trying to step on your toes and its pretty clear you thought I was doing exactly that. I know a lot of people in this industry, and almost all of them have passed it off as being nothing short of hilarious that Xbox would suddenly disappear. I trust them more than NeoGaf users. Microsoft isn't going to sell itself off (right now, at least) when its already taken the biggest hit in terms of developing the console and its hardware. From this point forward is where they start to cash in. I actually came back to this thread to delete the first part of my comment because there wasn't actually anyone saying anything to serious about it until you quoted my post just a minute ago.
Anyway, this is a stupid thing to argue about and I'm mad I've wasted time doing it already. I get that for whatever reason some people want to see their opposing console fall flat on its face. I'm just not one of those people, and I'd really like it if every console and their publisher succeeded.

Forbes article with comments from MS directly, incase you wanted to check it out. Honestly, Uber, I didn't mean for my post to lash out at you or anyone in particular. I know you're a great poster, and so is Knight (the only other person who posted on the subject, I believe). I just get frustrated by the hyperbole being thrown around, especially when most of us here spent our money on these things. People were saying the exact same things about Sony last generation. It's hilarious how these things work.Last edited by BenGerman; 02-26-2014, 05:49 AM.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Xbox One
Yeah I didn't mean to sound combative at all.
Also, I'm waiting for a must have game (or some price drop where I'd be stupid to pass it up) before I pick up my XBOne, though I am resigned to the fact that I will own one at some point. Their stock has just fallen with me because their focus is pretty much on shooters and multiplayer games, neither of which interest me much at all. That and I just can't see myself passing up something related to legit gaming at all.badComment

Re: Xbox One
I like coming to this message board instead of IGN comments. Over there there is so much hate for the xbox one, especially from people who don't own it. People actually act like adults when discussing consoles here when discussing consoles and realizes it is good for the industry if both succeed... I love it!Comment

Thinking that MS sits back and says, "Well crud, Sony is selling more than us, we need to bail" is silly. I like the company as a whole. I really like what is Xbox, especially their handling of XBL.
There are legitimate reasons to not like the One, but this go around there seems to be a heavy trend of hating on it. Not necessarily here, but specifically with the internet press, many columns claim they need to give up.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment
