    Re: Xbox 720

TechRadar is really selling themselves out trying to keep this "always on" thing going. In one of their latest articles they write about how the next Xbox may mimic a PC structure. They finish the article with...

"However, we're less enthusiastic about the advert for an Xbox Live service engineer, which asks for someone who can "understand the future of networking and how the network interacts with cloud-based applications". It's not a definite hint at an always-online console, but it does make us wonder..."

How on earth does that say anything about always on?

I'm staunchly anti Xbox for next generation and even I think that's a horrible stretch to say / make.

I'm probably leaning towards getting the next Xbox just because I've been on Live so long. However, after next week I will be able to make a more informed choice about which next generation system will be a better fit for me. I'm looking forward to seeing the reveal next week.

Same, the inevitable integration with everything puts me slanted toward the next X, though Sony making many of the right moves for sure. Looking forward to seeing the complete picture before making a decision.

            Same here...
Even though I'm 99.9% sure I will be XBOX only at least for the first year or so, pricing and real info will dictate it.
Will take some huge issue for me not to grab the XBOX at launch.

No more Microsoft points more than likely.

Microsoft is killing off its Points system that's primarily used for its Xbox console. The death of Microsoft Points has been a long time coming, and follows Microsoft's move away from the virtual currency towards cash in Windows 8. Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed to The Verge that the software maker plans to replace Points with a new gift card system.

I wonder if more people would buy say, a 800 point add on thinking "oh, it's only 800 points!", compared to having it listed as 9.99/10.00$.

Points were/are an unnecessary step simply because you have to go and buy more, which makes it all an extra step to make the purchase.

They need to just add one-click purchasing like Amazon. But that could be dangerous for me. The Amazon one-click purchase has gotten me in some tight situations..lol.

I just hope there are as many discount MS $$ cards available as there were MS Points cards. MS points were a little bit of a hassle, but I got so many free points from the Xbox Rewards program, BING rewards, etc...and hardly ever paid full price for points...$15 for $20 or $40 for $50.

This is my feeling. I didn't actually hate the points. Hell, I have more left over in my PSN wallet and never got any discounts there. It was nice to get more money than what I was paying for from time to time.

I think you will see something similar to Itunes gift cards. Not on sale all the time, but every once in a while or free if you buy other things.

Microsoft planning Xbox dashboard UI and tile changes in preparation for next-gen console

Microsoft is preparing to update its Xbox 360 with another dashboard update. Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed to The Verge that the dashboard update will enter into a public beta in late June or early July, with changes and updates in preparation for the next-generation Xbox. We're told that the user interface will be refreshed alongside smaller Live Tiles, similar to what Microsoft is preparing for Windows 8.1. Microsoft is also said to be tweaking the look of the Xbox dashboard, with the possibility of darker or lighter themes.

We understand Microsoft is aiming to ensure Xbox 360 users can transition over to the next-generation console and interact with existing Xbox 360 users using messaging, beacons, and achievements. Microsoft will also phase out the use of its Points system with this dashboard update, replacing it with currency and gift card options. We're told that the final update will be made available, providing the public beta testing goes to plan, in August.
Microsoft is holding a special event at its campus in Redmond on May 21st to unveil the next-generation Xbox. Sources have revealed to us that the event will include details of the new interactive TV features that the company is building into its next console. Microsoft is also expected to show off a smaller and denser Xbox console with newly designed controllers that are said to be "flattened" in appearance.

Wanted to post that article above as it makes a lot of sense and falls with my prediction of what we will hear a lot about on Tue. I would bet this will be their answer to the Vita remote play that the PS4 will have. I could see the Smartglass optimized to stream actual gameplay to make the next box the ultimate portable and home console using the phone or tablets you already own. Not to mention being the main control of their whole home media concept.

If they fail to do this, then they have certainly missed an opportunity.
