    Re: Xbox One

But you can turn them off. Always online doesnt literally mean 24/7...it is just that the connection is available and established once turning the device on. No big deal there.

But in terms of the consoles, my xbox ones and ps4s are always in low power state so they always have the connection available for updates. That way I dont have to read about game/os updates and go change a cord to connect them. They do it on their own and everything is always ready to go. Sure it wouldn't take long if I wanted to manually do it like you especially considering I have fiber gigabit internet, but why waste time doing that? Life is only so long!

      Re: Xbox One

I have my laptop, Xbox One and PS4 Pro. I have a separate Ethernet cable connected to each console. I have one modem which is connected to my laptop. When I need/want to go online with either console, I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the modem that's connected to my laptop and connect the Ethernet cable for the respective console that im going to go online with.

Seriously, it takes two minutes. I'm a pure single player console gamer and don't play online and barely go online with either console and only do so if I want to buy something off the Xbox/PlayStation store. Last time I was connected was a few weeks ago when Ori was on sale for $10. Finally hit the price point that I was willing to pay and well, I bought it.

I'm not a fan of wireless. I even keep my controllers connected to the console when playing. Both of them. I don't have a router which would be a waste of money for me plain and simple.

Basically, in summary.....what the majority of you guys do is easy and convenient for you. What I do is easy and convenient for me. Pretty much what it comes down to.

I have all those automatic updates turned off. I never do that. Mainly because there's always problems with the console updates (and sometimes games too) so I usually wait a week or two to make sure the problems are ironed out. And yes, PlayStation updates tend to get this more times than not. The last update even "bricked" consoles for some of those who downloaded it so I always wait.

So that's basically why im not connected. Just for me, there's no reason to do so.

Hahaha. I'm definitely the opposite of the majority (if not everyone) but it works for me.

Why would I need a router (hate wireless by the way) and have everything connected at all times if it's just me? I can see if you have a bunch of kids and stuff going on but for someone like me, it would make no sense.
So to save $7-10 (that's right, you can get a router for that cheap) you manually connect the cable like we are in 1995? Do you also hate remote controls and get up out of the lazy boy to turn the channel each time too like its 1955?

Dude, it's the cost of a freaking McDonalds meal, LMAO.

That last comment "take my console to the modem" and the "Dude what is this, 1995?" had me rolling LOL!!

Not to mention if you hate wifi, fine, but the router can be used to plug all in at once. I understand it isn't a huge hassle to switch, but why sit there waiting for things to download when they could be done already? I mean if you don't think your time is valuable enough, to each their own.

But I do have to ask...if you hate wireless so much that you keep your controllers plugged in then as asked above, do you use remotes? Do you use a land line instead of a cell phone with attached headsets instead of cordless? If not then your anti wireless attitude is rather silly...

It's not about saving the money. It would just be a waste of money that could be spent on something better, like that McDonalds meal. I simply prefer using a wired connection for various reasons. The connection is always better and faster. The security is better. It's far easier for someone to hack you via wireless and open ports than it is through a wired connection. My setup is in one room. Nowhere else and thus, I don't need to have a router or a wireless connection. For me, it just doesn't make any sense. The positives of being wired outweigh the positives of wireless for me but that's just me.

As for the remote control question, yes, I use the one that came with my Sony X800D 4K HDR TV but I barely use it because the input is always set to HDMI 2 (ps4 pro) and is my primary. I'm maybe six feet away from the screen and have the volume normally at 5 or 6 but in the summer with the windows open and living across the street from a park, I have the volume at 8 or 10. I don't have cable or satellite and barely if ever watch TV. My TV is pretty much 99% gaming. The other 1% is for when I rent a movie here and there or if a buy a movie like I did the other day. John Wick Chapter 2 is freaking awesome by the way!!!

My download speed is 100MB per second and outside of peak hours, pretty much hits that consistently with a wired connection. It has more to do with the source of the download than it does the setup. Downloading games on Xbox One is slower than it is for me on PlayStation 4. Even a massive game with Ghost Recon Wildlands which I'll most likely buy on Monday digitally won't take more than maybe 10 minutes, if that.

I rarely if ever just sit and wait. Majority of the time, im doing other things. Laundry, showering, eating, etc. Trust me, I make the most of my time. Also, you may have stuff to download more often than I do. If I end up buying GRW and a few other games Monday, being connected online beforehand isn't going to make the process go any faster because I still have to buy, pay and confirm it all.

I do use my remote control as stated above but it's very little. The 1080P Samsung HDTV that I have in another room barely has any wear on the remote despite owning and using it from Sept 2011 - Sept 2016. TV was already "preset" to where it was just a matter of turning it on along with the console.

I do have a cell phone. No actual home phone. Got rid of that years ago. I do always use a wired earpiece though mainly because the clarity is better with it then without it.

Don't think my wireless attitude is silly at all because wired has always worked better for me and I simply prefer it over wireless.

Could always buy a router without wireless, or just disable the wireless if it has it.

Not crazy bud. Simply don't trust anyone. Just have no reason or interest in going wireless. Wired has worked for me since Dreamcast in 2000 with minimal to no problems and that's the way I like it.
